Gwen Stableford Named New Jersey Horseperson of the Year

Ali and Gwen Stableford

On Sunday, January 27, 2008, a totally surprised Ms. Gwen Stableford of Summit, NJ, was awarded the prestigious Governor’s Trophy for the New Jersey Horseperson of the Year at the NJ Department of Agriculture Banquet in East Windsor, NJ.

Ms. Gwen received this honor for her endless work for the NJ horse industry. She is a founding member of ASHA of NJ, which was incorporated in 1968.   For many years, Gwen has been active with the NJ Horse Council and the NJ ASHA serving as treasurer for these organizations and always volunteering her services for the various horse fairs and clinics held throughout the state.

Gwen has been a Saddlebred exhibitor since the 1950’s and, most recently, a Hackney exhibitor with her pleasure driving pony, Ali.  Gwen and Ali have won championships and year-end awards for the past 10 years. Ali achieved World Championship status as a three-year-old and earned the United States Equestrian Pony of the Year Award in 2003, 04, 05 and 06. Just this fall, Ali was retired to Kathy and Mike Barlow’s Buffalo Creek Farm in Rockvale, TN.  This does not mean that Gwen, who celebrated her 90th birthday, is retiring.  On the contrary, she will debut her new four-year-old Hackney pony, Heartland Elegant Touch in 2008 with trainers, Kathy and Mike Barlow

She is truly an inspiration to us all!
