Equine Obituary - Callaway’s Carousel (BHF)

News came from Callaway Hills that the Hall of Fame broodmare Callaway’s Carousel had to be put down following a bad case of colic. One of Tony Weldon’s favorite mares, Carousel has produced 15 foals for Callaway Hills, many of them world’s champions and a handful of youngsters still waiting their turn.

With a heavy dose of Anacacho Shamrock and Vanity’s Sensation Of Crebilly blood on both sides of her pedigree, Callaway’s Carousel was foaled April 20, 1990, a daughter of world’s champion CH Caramac and the Wing’s Destiny daughter, Callaway’s Sweet Clover. Herself a Broodmare Hall of Fame member, Callaway’s Carousel’s third and fourth dams (Clover Princess and Knight’s Golden Lady) were also members of the prestigious sorority.

Carousel’s first foal was Callaway’s Button and Bows who went on to be a multi-titled world’s champion. She was followed by Callaway’s County Fair, Callaway’s Brass Ring and Callaway’s Merry-Go-Round, all champions. This year’s World’s Champion Five-Gaited Stallion, Callaway’s Bluesman, is also out of the great Callaway’s Carousel. Her newest offspring to hit the show ring, Callaway’s Baa Baa Black Sheep debuted in the junior gaited division at Louisville this year and was recently sold to Kalarama Farm.
