Equine Death-Charm’s Playboy

This month, Al Kelly endured the loss of his road and pleasure driving pony, Charm’s Playboy. "Teddy" was Kelly’s first Hackney show pony, and they won numerous classes and championships in the road pony and pleasure driving pony divisions.

When Kelly first purchased Teddy in 1991, he was trained and shown by Darlene Trento-Wright in the open road pony division. The following show season, he was shown by Kelly in the amateur road pony division with much success. Prior to being owned by Kelly, he was owned by Patricia Ciandella who also showed him as an amateur road pony. He was also owned by Ted and Carol Hall and shown as a harness pony. While with the Halls, he was trained by Denny Lang.

In 1996, Kelly became an amateur, owner, trainer, driver and showed Teddy in the amateur road pony division. Thereafter, Kelly showed him as a pleasure driving pony. Kelly retired Teddy in 1998 and took him to his home in New Hartford, N.Y., where he enjoyed his retirement for 12 years. Teddy would have been 32 on March 13, 2010.
