Don Harris and Raymond Shively Headline ASHA Open Forum

The American Saddlebred Horse Association’s (ASHA’s) Open Forum, on Tuesday, July 10, from 4:30 to 6:00 PM, will feature legendary trainers Don Harris and Raymond Shively who will share their decades of memories from showing on the Red Mile. Their presentation, “Mastering The Red Mile,” will begin at 5:15 at the Red Mile Clubhouse.

Harris knows the Red Mile track as well as any trainer living, having won championships for many decades. Some of his greatest stars – CH Giddy-Up-Go, CH Imperator, CH Gift Of Love, CH Sultan's Starina, and CH Protégé have all made championship victory passes on the famed homestretch of the Red Mile.

Shively has had Lexington champions since the ‘60s, both riding and driving. One of his greatest personal memories was driving CH First Look to the Fine Harness Stallion/Gelding blue back in the mid-70s. Over the decades he has also driven many Lexington Junior League roadster greats like Back N Black, Invincible Summer, Highway 66, Gingerbread Man and Emerson to name a few.

In addition to hearing stories from these two Masters Of The Red Mile, guests will have the opportunity to meet with the ASHA Board of Directors and find out about the many wonderful programs that are currently underway. Information will also be available on the new technology upgrade project that will benefit the breed for many years to come.

“Please take the opportunity to sign up as volunteers for the many upcoming American Saddlebred promotional events or to work on a committee,” said President Tandy Patrick. “ASHA will be providing snacks and a cash bar. And the best part, the event is completely free. We hope everyone will take the opportunity to come by and visit with the Board of Directors, see what we’re doing and then enjoy what promises to be a great group of stories from two industry legends.”
