Dixie Jubilee - New Facility, New Manager . . . Still A Louisiana Treasure!

The Dixie Jubilee Horse Show, held for many years at the Louisiana State University’s John M. Parker Coliseum in Baton Rouge, La., moved this year to Lamar-Dixon Expo Center in nearby Gonzales, La., and the new facility seemed to be a hit with exhibitors.

Charles Byron took over the management duties of the show from 2003 manager Russ Walther and under his direction, Saddle Horse and Tennessee Walking Horse owners, trainers, and exhibitors continued the grand tradition of the Dixie Jubilee Horse Show.

Melinda Moore traveled from Kentucky to mark the cards for the Saddlebred, Hackney, Roadster and academy divisions Oct. 27-30th.

Practical Magic and Chris Treston were named the Amateur Five-Gaited Grand Champions. Lauren Greenwald and Worthy’s Hale-Bopp, from SGF Winning Ways Farm, were the Junior Exhibitor Three-Gaited Champions and also took the tricolor in the Three-Gaited Stake.

For the second year in a row, Sandy Currier sat behind the Fine Harness Grand Champion. This year it was Xuxa and Currier that took the title for Ed and Ada Perwein and their Bluebonnet Farm.

The Mardi Gras Ball, always a huge hit with the horse show group, featured the crowning of Walking Horse King Jimmy McConnell and Saddle Horse Queen Debbie Graves.
