Dick Durant Passes Away



The Saddle Horse world learned of the passing of Hall of Fame trainer Richard “Dick” Durant on Saturday, May 11. Along with his wife Jeanette, Durant started the famed Bell View Acres 49 years ago. Junior Ray has been part of the Durant team since Bell View Acres’ inception and following her junior exhibitor years, the Durant’s daughter Lynn joined the team as a professional. Another daughter, Margaret, also showed as a junior exhibitor.

A well-respected horseman and judge, Durant was also known to be a great gentleman. Along with Jeanette, he was inducted into the 2000 World’s Championship Horse Show Hall of Fame and in 2006 they joined another esteemed group of legendary trainers with induction into the UPHA Hall of Fame.
