Darrel E. Wallen passes away at 82

Decatur, Indiana - Lifelong American Saddlebred trainer and longtime Blue Moon Stables operator Darrel E. Wallen,82, of Decatur, Indiana, died Wednesday, September 21.
Wallen’s father started Blue Moon Stables in 1922 and Wallen carried on the tradition. Throughout has career, he has operated stables in Minnesota, Missouri, California and Indiana.
He owned and trained one of the most popular exhibition Saddlebred horses, "Mr. Rhythm." Wallen was one of the founding members of the United Professional Horsemen’s Association and a World War II Army veteran.
Friends may call tonight (Friday) from 2-8 p.m. at Thoma-Rich, Hewitt & Chaney Funeral Home and for an hour prior to services Saturday at the church. Service will take place Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Six Mile Church with the burial at Oak Lawn Cemetery.
