Cordes Joins Saddle Horse Report

Margaret Cordes

Margaret Cordes has joined the staff of Saddle Horse Report as an advertising and editorial representative. Cordes's horse world and career as a television news journalist intersected in Chicago in 1993. Trainer Carl Irwin had just returned to the Chicago area's VIP Farms with a new world's championship title. The local news was interested. Cordes, who was just learning about owning and showing horses, produced a live morning news segment about the American Saddlebred in the Chicago area from VIP Farms on WMAQ television where she worked as a newscast producer.

Later, her television career and horses headed south to Houston. Fate intervened again as her new Houston employer had been a longtime sponsor of the Pin Oak Charity Horse Show. Cordes, a member of the show board, arranged live coverage of the show featuring a young girl who lost her leg to cancer. The 10-year-old learned to ride a Saddlebred as she learned to live life with a prosthetic leg.

Since then Cordes has used her skills as a journalist to find unique stories about the American Saddlebred, the trainers, owners, admirers and exhibitors for American Saddlebred publications.

"Margaret is such a professional. She is such an asset to our whole team of experienced representatives. I am very proud to have her at the Saddle Horse Report," said Publisher Christy Howard Parsons.

Cordes, now living in Indianapolis, is also working with Jim Aikman as producer and editor of his new video project focusing on the life stories and training techniques of our Saddlebred Trainers.
