CH The Groomsman Dies

Multi-titled world’s champion CH The Groomsman (Harlem Globetrotter x Belle Supreme GRT) had to be put down Wednesday evening, February 22. He was 25.

Dark bay and extremely athletic, The Groomsman debuted with Don Harris in 1991, winning the Junior Three-Gaited Stake at River Ridge. They went on to win the Junior Three-Gaited World’s Champion Of Champions and junior qualifying titles that year before The Groomsman was purchased by Emerald Hills Ranch, with Jack Nevitt as trainer. Nevitt won the Three-Gaited 15.2 & Under World’s Championship three consecutive years as well as taking the Three-Gaited Reserve World’s Grand Championship in ’93 and ’94. In 1995, new owner Carol Hillenbrand would win the first of several world’s titles with The Groomsman, this one the Amateur World’s Champion Of Champions.

A complete tribute will be published in an upcoming issue of Saddle Horse Report.
