Calvin Hanson Authors New Morgan Book

Morgan horse historian and multi-licensed equestrian judge Calvin Hanson has authored a new book, “A Gallery of 29 Years of World Champion Morgan Horses.”

The book is a detailed study of every World Champion and their illustrious pedigrees in the eleven major “open sections” of the World Championship Morgan Horse Show from the show’s inception in 1973 up to, and including, 2001.

The sections covered are: In Hand Stallions, In Hand Mares, In Hand Geldings, Park Harness, Park Saddle, Hunter Pleasure, Western Pleasure, English Pleasure, Pleasure Driving, Classic Pleasure (Open Saddle & Open Driving), and Roadster To Bike. The book also features a “Hall of Fame” for World Champion Morgan Producers.

A unique four-generation pedigree is displayed for each World Champion connecting to a special Descendant Tree that traces one ancestral bloodline back to the breed’s originator Justin Morgan #1. The Descendant Trees bring to light Hanson’s historical nine-year computerization of the breed’s foundation, which in-part documented more than 30,000 unregistered horses (unknowns). The Descendant Trees show how he connected the Registered Morgans to the unregistered horses as they linked themselves together generation to generation all the way to Justin Morgan. He also turns unregistered and nameless horses into fully Registered Morgans in the background lineage of the World Champions. All of the Descendant Trees would have been lost if he had not computerized the foundation. Additionally, the book highlights the prominent sires and dams in each chapter.

One year ago, Hanson released his first book, “The Morgan Horse Foundation - A Computerized Analysis”, which was donated to The National Museum of the Morgan Horse and is available through them.

The latest book brings many more of Hanson’s pedigree discoveries and findings to the forefront. Anyone wishing more information about the latest books may contact Calvin Hanson, c/o P.O. Box 114, Rooseveltown, New York, 13683; or by email, [email protected].
