Blue Ridge Classic Selects Three-Judge Panel

Posted February 5, 2002 Ricky Harris, Michael Craghead, and Rob Wilson comprise the panel of judges for this year’s Blue Ridge Classic Horse Show which will be held July 24-27 in Asheville, N.C. All three judges will judge the Saddlebred, Hackney and roadster divisions. Craghead will also judge the equitation and academy divisions and Wilson will judge all Morgan classes.
This year marks the first time in the nine year history of the show that classes will be judged by a panel, according to show manager Elizabeth Holmes. Holmes returns in 2002 as manager for the second year in a row. Under her direction, last year’s show had more than 1100 entries representing 25 states. Nearly 700 horses competed at the Western North Carolina Agricultural Center, making it the largest in the show’s history.
This year also marks the return of official photographer Howard Schatzberg after a six year absence. Schatzberg is also the official photographer of the Lexington Junior League Horse Show, Morgan Grand National and World Championship Horse Show, and shares center ring with Doug Shiflet at the World’s Championship Horse Show at the Kentucky State Fair.
The agenda for the weekend, in addition to a full slate of classes in all divisions, will also include a welcome party on Tuesday evening, the traditional progressive party on Thursday evening, an exhibitor’s party on Friday night, a sponsor’s brunch on Saturday and another party after the last class on Saturday night.
