Blood Typing to be Discontinued

AMHA has been informed that the lab which currently offers blood typing services to AMHA will no longer be providing this service after 2015. AMHA has not found another lab offering blood typing services for horses.

Although DNA typing became mandatory on January 1, 2001, in some rare cases blood typing is necessary to verify parentage to complete the registration of a foal.

If you have a breeding mare or stallion that does not have a DNA on file and falls under any of the below criteria, please contact the AMHA Registry immediately to request a Blood Typing/DNA combination test.

1. The sire and/or dam of your horse does not have a DNA on file

2. Your horse was blood typed prior to 12/8/1988

Please contact the AMHA Registry at (802) 985-4944 or by email, [email protected] by October 1, 2015 to order a blood typing kit. The last window of opportunity to have your Morgan's blood type established will be November 1-15, 2015.
