Annual Fall Morgan Consignment Auction

The Cochran Auction Service Annual Fall Morgan Consignment Auction celebrated its 21st anniversary on November 9 and 10, 2007. The sale, which has been held since 2002 at Tattersalls in Lexington, Kentucky, is proudly organized and run by Harold, Penny and Kylee Cochran. Ninety-six horses were sold during this year’s sale, which began on Friday evening with the second installment of the World Futurity Session where the yearling filly MSV Miss Belle (Minion Millennium x Aljaks Miss Wham I Am) was the high seller. The chestnut filly, consigned by Margaret Van Meter with Triumph Stables as agent, was purchased by Janet Brown and Michael Socher.

The Cochran Auction bonus to the highest placing horse in the 2007 World Futurity Three-Year-Old English Pleasure that sold during the 2006 Cochran Auction World Futurity Session was another sale highlight. Bad To The Bone (Man In Motion x Honeytree’s Simply Unique) received the $2,500 bonus for EPA Partners and trainers Lynn and Kathleen Peeples. In addition a trio of 2007 Grand National winners brought the list of Cochran Auction Honor Roll Bonus Winners up to 25. This year’s recipients of the incentive money were Ultra’s Legal Advantage, MEM Virtual Insanity and KH Chapter One who all made victory passes for their owners who had purchased them at the Cochran Auction.

Bad To The Bone received a check for $2,500.

Lynn and Kathleen Peeples accepted the check for

EPA Partners from Kylee, Harold and Penny Cochran.

For the third year in a row, PlayMor Farm extended their hospitality with a welcome party and open house on Thursday evening prior to the Cochran Auction. It was another busy weekend for PlayMor Farm at the farm, as well as at the auction. PlayMor Farm once again brought home the sale-topper as Spiceolife Right Answer (Issues N’ Answers x Spiceolife Allura B) earned the bid of $48,000. The nine-year-old bay stallion is a show ring champion and a sire of world champions. He joins the list of grand stallions at PlayMor Farm following an illustrious career for Kenton and Katrina Wood’s Graywood Stables. Right Answer headlined the Graywood reduction sale and was presented by Mark and Jennifer Mason.

The top-five average for the sale was up slightly to $21,600 with the second highest bid of $22,000 going to Penncrest Prophecy (Nostradamus x Penncrest Dyna Pepper) in foal to Minion Millennium. The 12-year-old black mare joins the fabulous broodmare band of Ann Hailey’s Copper Beech following her purchase from Richard and Jean Withers. The winning show gelding Adventure’s Priority was purchased by Kathleen Mediate with David Earehart as agent for $17,000 from Barbara Tardy with Tim Roesink presenting. Graywood’s Lennox, who sold for $11,500, as well as Graywood’s Lear, were purchased from Graywood Stables by Harry and Mary Daughtry. Raintree Let’s Dance rounded out the top five at $8,500 with Wendy Symer Linder selecting the daughter of Born To Boogie from Garn and Melissa Walker. The top ten average was steady from last year at approximately $15,000 while the overall sale average was up slightly to just over $3,700.

The Cochran Annual Fall Sale is truly a family affair. Harold, Penny and Kylee Cochran serve in every conceivable job prior to and during the sale. In addition to the Cochrans, the sale staff included: Rick Hayes, Ron Roesink, Tom Sayre, Chad Graham, Julie Schmidt, Dayne Maple, Gary Houck and Dave Garrett. The Cochrans were delighted with the success of this year's sale and are already in the planning stages for November 2008.
