50th Anniversary of Mid West Hackney Futurity

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Mid West Hackney Futurity. The Mid West Hackney Association was formed by a group of 13 members in 1954 and plans were made to hold the first futurity in 1955 at the Illinois State Fair. The first futurity offered prize money of $2,400, divided among four divisions, and showcased 33 ponies.

Last year’s futurity awarded more than $49,000 in 16 divisions and kept records on 953 ponies.

The futurity book is published annually and this year will feature several items of interest on past futurities and the history of the organization. Ads are being booked now for the futurity book and anyone interested in advertising should contact Shirley Parkinson at 217-864-2421 or email:  SSP112128@aol.com. A special rate is being offered this year that will include the ad in both the futurity book and the sale catalog.

Nominations for mares, stallions or weanlings in 2005 are being accepted until April 10th. Information and nomination forms can be obtained by contacting Karen Wood at 815-638-2071 or email: asb10@earthlink.net.

Additional plans are underway to celebrate the anniversary at both the Illinois State Fair, where the futurity classes are held, and the Mid West Hackney Sale, Oct. 22, 2005.
