50th Anniversary Far West Regional Morgan Horse Show
Friday, February 9, 2007
Plans are underway for the 50th anniversary of the Far West Morgan Horse Show. Far West serves as the AMHA Region 8 Championship Show and will be held once again at the scenic Deschutes County Fairgrounds in Redmond, Ore. The show committee enthusiastically headed in 2007 by Marli Perry and Diana Pyle has recently announced the hiring of Barbara Dunham as Far West show manager. Dunham brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in the show horse industry to her new position.
Far West has been the site of many events throughout the years that have made it an industry leader. The Patron Purse Amateur Championships have awarded tens of thousands of dollars, they will continue in 2007 in the amateur English pleasure, amateur western pleasure and amateur hunter pleasure divisions. Deborah Stevenson is working on Patron Purse and Corporate Sponsorships in 2007 with great success. The Sparrow Clubs USA in Central Oregon will be a beneficiary of the show.
Far West will take place on June 19-23 with Steve Davis, Betty Gray and Donna Longacre (dressage) serving as judges. The list of top flight Far West officials will also include: secretary, Kelly McFaul; photographer, Casey McBride; announcer, Bill Carrington; USEF steward, R. Phillip Rice; ringmaster, Tim Schubert; paddock master, Scott Beyl; barn manager, Phil Goulet; and farrier, Skip Bickford.
There will be many special events during the week including; a golf tournament, youth contest, dog show, equine entertainment acts, wall of Far West history and the 50th Anniversary Celebration Dinner – First Annual ‘Black Tie and Blue Jean Affair’. Everyone involved is committed to making this 50th Anniversary Show spectacular with entertainment, festivities and a showing of our Morgan breed to remember. Saddle Horse Report will continue to bring you details as they become available.
