AMHA Board Member Georgie Green Honored

FORT WORTH, TX — Georgie Green, member of the Board of Directors for The American Morgan Horse Association for twenty-seven years, was honored with the NPLC’s Distinguished Service Award at the annual meeting of the National Pedigreed Livestock Council in Fort Worth, Texas on May 9, 2007. The NPLC offers executive officers of the various nonprofit breed associations of dairy, horse and pony, sheep, goat, swine and beef species the opportunity to interchange ideas and learn from one another. Being award the NPLC’s Service Award is an honor extended to those whose dedication to their chosen breed is exhibited through extensive altruistic endeavors.
In 1980 Georgie joined the AMHA board of directors, five years later in 1985 she was named AMHA’s woman of the year. That same year she was elected the first woman president of the organization, a position she held from 1985 to 1988 and again from 1993 to 1996. Aside from her role as president, Georgie has served on, and frequently chaired, six AMHA committees. She has also served on the executive committee for the World Championship Morgan Horse Show and was chair of the 2001 Show. Georgie has served on the Board of Directors of the United States Equestrian Federation since 1996 and is currently the Secretary – Treasurer of that organization. Tyler J. Atwood, Registrar for the AMHA, calls Georgie “a true lady with the highest ethical standards and incredible dedication and commitment to the Morgan horse. The AMHA has benefited greatly from her efforts.”
Georgie and her husband John own and run Road Show Morgans, one of the largest Morgan breeding facilities in Texas and one of the largest amateur operations in the United States. Her dedication to the first truly American horse is exemplified by her work to foster interest for pedigreed livestock in younger generations. Youth and horses are brought together in the Southwest each year through several events established by Georgie. Her civic engagements also include extensive participation on several educational boards.
