American Royal Show Updates and Scholarship Recipient

The American Royal Association and the United Professional Horseman’s Association (UPHA) are pleased to announce that the 2012 UPHA American Royal National Championship Horse Show will take place from November 13-17 at the American Royal’s Kemper Arena. 2012 marks the 11th year for the show, which is a joint effort of the American Royal and UPHA.

The American Royal Association is also pleased to announce the 2011 recipient of the newly established UPHA American Royal National Championship Horse Show $1,500 Youth Academic Scholarship - Jordan Inman of Dallas, Texas. Jordan exhibited in the three gaited country pleasure division during the 2011 show and plans to attend Texas A&M in the fall. The scholarship is open to junior riders who actively participate in the UPHA American Royal National Championship Horse Show. The selection criteria include the applicant’s level of involvement in school and extra-curricular activities, participation in equine activities, outside work experience and volunteerism. The UPHA American Royal Advisory Committee encourages junior exhibitors of all ages to apply to the scholarship in 2012. Application forms will be available in the prize list and on the American Royal website in August.

The 2012 UPHA American Royal National Championship Horse Show will also mark the return of the Parade Horse Division. The Parade Horse Division, which is experiencing a renaissance, will include an open class and a stake class. Over the last several months, show management has received a number of requests to add the division to the schedule. Complete details will be available in the prize list, which will be distributed in August.

The UPHA American Royal Horse Show Committee has also announced the schedule of social activities to be held during the show. To kick off the UPHA American Royal National Championship Horse Show, Monday evening will be Movie Night and will feature vintage American Royal Saddle Horse Show footage including some of the great horses, riders and trainers of the breed. The Tuesday evening performance will include the presentation of the American Royal “Horse Person of the Year” and will include a party in the Exhibitor’s Club immediately following the performance. The UPHA Classic Grand Championships will return to the show again this year on Thursday evening. The Classics performance, which showcases the top young horses in the industry, will be followed by the UPHA Classics Auction and Party.

Friday Evening is all about pink! The show will host the UPHA Pink Ribbon Program farewell party. The evening’s festivities will culminate with the very competitive Ladies Five Gaited Pink Ribbon Class. The UPHA Pink Ribbon Program has been an incredibly successful program which has raised over $ 250,000 in just 5 years to help fight breast cancer and has also offered mammograms at no charge to individuals who are uninsured or underinsured. The UPHA Pink Ribbon Program will be replaced by the UPHA’s Iron Will Program, which is designed to raise funds to combat all types of cancer. Saturday evening’s Stake Night performance will include 13 top caliber National Championship classes with the grand finale being the $50,000 Five Gaited National Championship. In total, the show awards over $245,000 in prize money.

“The UPHA American Royal National Championship Horse Show is truly the crown jewel of the American Royal season.” said Bob Petersen, President and CEO of the American Royal Association. “The quality of horses and riders showing here is outstanding and the level of competition each year is phenomenal. We feel very fortunate to host such a dedicated and professional group of exhibitors. “ said Petersen.
