The American Royal Opens

by Susan F. Harris

SHR Online Editor

The UPHA American Royal National Championship Horse Show opened on a cool, breezy day with great anticipation. As the last major show of the season, and the third leg of the unofficial Saddlebred/Hackney/Roadster “Triple Crown,” it’s always interesting to see how many reigning world’s champions will be on hand to add National Championship titles to their résumés.

Interspersed among the first day and evening’s schedule was a wide range of classes for Missouri-Kansas horses, ponies and riders – a wonderful opportunity to showcase the region’s best talent.

Renee Biggins, one of the industry’s hardest working and most respected instructors, was honored Tuesday night as the American Royal Horseperson of the Year. See separate story.

A few photographic highlights follow. Stay tuned and come along for the ride as Saddle Horse Report Online brings you daily snapshots of the happenings at the UPHA American Royal National Championship Horse Show. Also be sure to check out complete show results by clicking here.
