Obituary – Dale Sloat

It is with heavy hearts that the Sloat Family would like to announce the passing of Dale Allyn Sloat, 77, on October 30, 2019. Dale is preceded in death by his parents, Lynn and Beatrice Sloat; wife of forty-eight years, Susan Sutton Sloat; and son, Lee Allyn Sloat. He is survived by his son Jeffrey Edwin Sloat, and grandson Dallyn Sloat, both of Shelbyville, KY; and sister, Karolyn (Greg) Donahue of Florida.

Dale was a cornerstone in the American Saddlebred community, creating many champions and show stoppers. Bandstand!, Reassessment, Our Golden Duchess, Contract’s Little Sister, CH Broadway Bluegrass, Broadway Tune and CH Cabaret Blues were among the ones he was most proud of throughout his career. His career started while under the guidance of Frank and Garland Bradshaw, giving him some of the best foundation in the business. Dale is also known for helping the Sidways’ reboot Falconwood. For the last twenty years he has trained at his own Dale Sloat Stables at Greenway Farm in Hopewell, VA, where he and Sue had a very successful training and lesson program.

Dale was known to many as a gentleman, devout horse trainer, and good friend. Dale will be remembered for his generous spirit, his colorful stories, and for his willingness to meet every challenge with good humor and resilience. The family has announced that a Celebration of Life will be held on November 23, 2019 at noon at Luca Italian Restaurant located 6411 Courthouse Rd, Prince George, VA 23875.
