ASHA Announces Youth Scholarship Recipients

Each year the American Saddlebred Horse Association (ASHA) recognizes its junior members age 21 and under on the basis of academic success, financial need, involvement with the American Saddlebred and the ASHA youth programs, and extracurricular activities including community service. The purpose of the scholarships is to encourage, support and recognize participation in all aspects of the American Saddlebred industry, as well as to strengthen the American Saddlebred industry and breed through education. For 2020, the ASHA is presenting two scholarships of $5,000 each helped made possible by the 2020 United State Equestrian Trust Grant awarded to ASHA.
ASHA is pleased to announce the following scholarship recipients this year.
Lily Callahan
Harrisburg, Missouri
Lily Callahan has dedicated her young life to the American Saddlebred and pursuing a variety of avenues to enjoy the breed and expand her abilities as an equestrian. From 4-H to the coveted American Eventing Championship Lilly has show the American Saddlebreds she loves and challenged people’s perception for what the breed and a young passionate exhibitor can do! Lily has shown and competed as an Amateur, Owner, Trainer at the national level of our breed shows and US Eventing Association events taking home many ASHA or ASR awards every year for her success and community work with both Royal Crest’s Granite Permission and The Phantom Pistol. Lily most recently began competing both in collegiate Eventing on the University of Transylvania team and sharing the Saddlebred with a new group of young equestrians!
Devin Sell
Georgetown, Kentucky
Devin Sell has dedicated her junior career to being an active ASHA Youth leader and promoter of the American Saddlebred. Devin was the 2020 ASHA Frank Ogletree Award, 2019 USEF Youth Sportsman’s Award, and 2018 ASHA Youth Club Youth Award recipient. Devin's achievements in the competition ring are amplified by her dedication to her horses, barn family, and the sport as a whole. She is active in the ASHA youth programs, including the ASHA Youth Conference, and volunteered at the Saddle Seat World Cup and Kentucky State Fair World’s Championship Horse Show. She participates in youth judging clinics and is a member of the US Equestrian Lettering Program. Devin is a member of the National Honors Society and an accomplished tennis player, and she intends to study pre-veterinary sciences and equine business management in college. Her dream is to become a large animal veterinarian, specializing in horses, and run her own lesson program for children and adults to help them learn proper riding and horse care.
In a year like any other we are greatly we were still able to grant these scholarships to our ASHA Youth. Since 1991, the American Saddlebred Horse Association has awarded more than $200,000 in scholarships to youth involved with American Saddlebreds.
