A Memorable First Trip To Oklahoma

By Sara Pizzuto

Taylor Ladd arrived in Oklahoma to compete for the first time this year, but she had the success of a seasoned veteran. The walk-trot rider left the fairgrounds with two World Championships, one Reserve World Championship, and three Grand National titles under the direction of Taylor River Farm.

Taylor teamed up with Mini Cooper to sweep the saddle seat walk-trot divisions, being named the Walk-Trot Saddle Seat Equitation 10-11, and Walk-Trot English Pleasure 10-11 World Champion. “Cooper” has only been Taylor’s partner for one season, but the two have formed a solid partnership.

Her other teammate, RJMF The Great Bambino, carried Taylor to the Walk-Trot Hunter Pleasure 10-11 Reserve World Championship. “Boomer” is typically shown by Taylor’s younger sister, but was matched with Taylor prior to the Morgan Grand Nationals. The two had one show to prepare before setting their sights on Oklahoma. However, Taylor explained that she felt confident throughout the week.

“I wasn’t nervous,” she said. “I was excited, and it was amazing.”

Taylor’s mother Brenda said that Taylor is a determined rider who practices four times a week at the New Hampshire based Taylor River Farm.

“We are very proud of Taylor,” she said. “She has worked very hard all year. It was only her second time showing hunt seat, so we were excited for her.”

2018 will bring a new division for Taylor, as she will make the move to the 13 and under age group. However, with her talent and drive, it is likely that this young rider will seemingly transition into the cantering ranks.
