2023 Joe Crawford Harrod Memorial Grant Recipients

The American Hackney Horse Society is pleased to announce the 2023 recipients of the Joe Crawford Harrod Memorial Grant!

Rokaya Aqrabawi was awarded funds to put toward her educational expenses at UNC Chapel Hill Honors College with a concentration in Environmental Science.  While continuing to show as an Amateur throughout her college years, she intends to specialize in developing and maintaining environmental policies that protect riders and their animals. In addition to this, she aspires to be the voice for riders and horses of all disciplines in protecting the planet we share.

In her first-year as a professional instructor Emma Townley believes the purpose and goal with her riding program is to teach the importance of the horse industry to her clients.   She was awarded a grant to contribute to the growth of the riding program at Stonebrook Farm by investing in a Hackney pony for the program. The Hackney will be used in riding and driving lessons.

Damon Smith is working to develop an amateur-owner breeding & show stable. He will use the grant funds to assist in broodmare selection with intent to participate in the AHHS Limited Breeders Sweepstakes Program.

Alexa Bik will use her grant to fund an apprenticeship with Rodney Hicks with plans to become an Assistant Trainer.  Alexa wishes to continue her education on all aspects of operating a high-level show stable; including training, instruction, horse show management, breeding programs & general farm management.

Congratulations to all four of these very deserving recipients!
