Dorothy Maddux Passes



Dorothy D. (Hawkins) Maddux, 84, of Ft. Wayne, IN., formerly of Camby, IN., passed away July 7, 2007 at her residence. She was born September 17, 1922 in Amity, IN. to the late William and Bertha (Marshall) Hawkins. She retired in 1978 after 32 years in the logistics department for the Indiana National Guard at Stout Field.

 

Dorothy was the wife of Hoosier Horsemen's Hall of Fame recipient, Vernon (Sarge) Maddux.  She was the proud owner of many great Hackney Ponies such as World Champion Dun-Haven High Time (1985/86), World Champion Dun-Haven Regality (1986).  Other great notable ponies she owned as top ribbon winners are Boulder's Lady Miss (early 1980's), Dun-Haven Star Supreme (renamed Rampage)(1983-1986), That's Style (1985), Merrywell's True Flight (1985), Merrywell's Star Time (1987), Cres-Or-Lars Atari (1990/91), Diamond's Commander (1990/91), and Walking in High Cotton (renamed Night Passage/Forever Friends) for the 1992 show season.

 

The viewing and funeral arrangements are Thursday, July 12 at 10:30 am in the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield, IN., where friends may call on Wednesday, July 11 from 4:00 - 8:00 pm. Burial will be in Fairfield Friends Cemetery. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon D. Maddux.

 

Survivors include her daughters, Nancy Barkhaus and Cynthia Day; brother, Noel Hawkins; 5 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Fairfield Friends Meeting - Camby, IN.
