50th Anniversary Far West Show Update

Plans are underway for the 50th anniversary of the Far West Morgan Horse Show to be held June 19-23 at the scenic Deschutes County Fairgrounds in Redmond, Ore. Show Manager Barbara Dunham and co-chairs Marli Perry and Diana Pyle report many exciting events planned for this year’s show.

Far West has been the site of many events throughout the years that have made it an industry leader. The Patron Purse Amateur Championships have awarded tens of thousands of dollars, they will continue in 2007 in the amateur English pleasure, amateur western pleasure and amateur hunter pleasure divisions with nearly $20,000 to be awarded in these three championships. Deborah Stevenson is working on Patron Purse and Corporate Sponsorships in 2007 with great success. The Sparrow Clubs USA in Central Oregon will be a beneficiary of the show.

The list of top flight Far West officials will also include secretary Kelly McFaul, photographer Casey McBride, announcer Bill Carrington, USEF Steward R. Phillip Rice, ringmaster Tim Schubert, paddock master Scott Beyl, barn manager Phil Goulet, farrier Skip Bickford and judges Steve Davis, Betty Gray and Donna Longacre (dressage).

There will be many special events during the week including a golf tournament on Monday, June 18, youth contest, dog show, equine entertainment acts, wall of Far West history and the 50th Anniversary Celebration Dinner – ‘Black Tie and Blue Jean Affair’. The Friday evening event will be held in the South Sisters Building and will feature dinner, entertainment and auction items. Exhibitors are encouraged to purchase tickets ahead of time at the show office.

To encourage greater participation, there will be no post-entry fees in any classes for pre-entered or post-entered horses. Everyone involved is committed to making this 50th Anniversary Show spectacular with entertainment, festivities and a showing of the Morgan breed to remember.
