JD MASSEY CLASSIC

April 13-16, 2011, Clemson, SC

The JD Massey Classic Horse Show announces plans for its 78th annual show at the T. Ed Garrison Arena in Clemson, South Carolina. First is an important date change. The show is scheduled for April 13-16, 2011, a week earlier than in recent years. This change will enable exhibitors to have earlier access to their stalls.

Chuck Herbert of Evansville, Indiana is judging all classes including academy. Peter Fenton is returning as announcer, and Beth Snider is once again serving as show secretary. New to the management team is Scott Snider of Shelbyville, Kentucky, who is serving as grounds and stable manager. Rounding out a first-rate group of officials is show manager, Dan Shirley.

The horse show is pleased to welcome a new group of exhibitors by offering driving and in-hand classes for American Show Ponies for the first time in 2011. The American Show Pony is a division of the American Shetland Pony Club (ASPC), and its registry is open to registered Shetlands, Hackneys, and Shetland/Hackney crosses that measure 48 inches and under.

In an effort to produce the most outstanding show possible, the horse show board recently surveyed current and past exhibitors, and is making every effort to accommodate the many excellent suggestions. As part of the show’s hospitality plans, a Progressive Barn Party is scheduled for Thursday night as well as an enhanced Exhibitors Party on Friday night. New in 2011 will be a Grooms Showmanship Under Saddle Jackpot class. Bound to be a lot of FUN, this will be a walk, trot and favorite gait class with all entry fees going into the prize money. In addition to new activities, the show is bringing back the traditional Tack Room Contest in memory and honor of the master himself, Don Stafford.
