Ladies Day at Devon Horse Show to Parade the ‘Jewels of Devon’

Rhinestones, embellishments, and lots of bling—Ladies Day at Devon Horse Show and Country Fair will showcase the ‘Jewels of Devon’ for this year’s theme. On Wednesday, May 31, bedazzle your headpiece with elaborate jewels and exciting color at this ever-popular event of the annual Devon Horse Show and Country Fair. The show-stopping Hat Contest promises outrageously flamboyant, handmade hats worn by exquisitely dressed women, who will be judged in several categories.

“Ladies Day started over 15 years ago as a very small event and has since grown to be one of the most anticipated events at the Horse Show,” said Kristy Rosenberger, Ladies Day Chair. “The theme for Ladies Day is very important because it sets the tone. This year’s theme, ‘Jewels of Devon,’ came about as a play on words for what the event is all about. A jewel can represent anything considered precious and valuable, whether it be an actual gem to decorate the hats or each of the participants in the Hat Contest.”

Among the judges of the Hat Contest is Carson Kressley, television personality and fashion designer, who will be autographing copies of his new book, Does This Book Make My Butt Look Big?: A Cheeky Guide to Feeling Sexier in Your Own Skin & Unleashing Your Personal Style, from 1-2 p.m.; copies will be available for sale in the Souvenir booth. The other judges are Adam Joseph, 6ABC Action News meteorologist; Caroline O’Halloran of Savvy Main Line; Anthony Weagley, President and CEO of Malvern Federal Savings Bank; Brittney Levine, Style & Trends expert and Host of Marie Claire’s “THE FIX”; Christine Moore, owner of Christine A. Moore Millinery; and, Kristin Detterline of Philadelphia Style Magazine.

Commented Senior Chair Darlene DiGorio: “Whether you’re coming to compete or to simply watch, everyone enjoys watching the parade of ladies in extravagant hats and matching attire. We also host an exceptional reception with live music, cocktails, and spectacular raffle prizes.”

Prizes will be awarded in six categories: Best in Show, which offers the Grand Prize for the hat that best incorporates this year’s theme; Most Fascinating for the best ‘fascinator’ topper; Best Hat to Toe for the best overall ensemble outfit; Best Hat and Purse for the best hat and purse pairing; Best Group for the best group of hats; and this year’s themed category, Best Jewels of Devon for the best hat that shines above the rest. Contest winners will receive exciting prizes provided by: J. McLaughlin, Louella, Mr. and Mrs. Ned Owen, Dr. and Mrs. Donald J. Rosato, Macy’s, Wink, and Cachet-Official Hair Salon.

Sponsored by Malvern Federal Savings Bank, Bryn Mawr Hospital Comprehensive Breast Center, The Baldwin School, Palm Bay International, Polka Dots in Paoli, Springton Tennis Club, and Krinsky Campus and Programs, Ladies Day will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2016, with registration beginning at 9:30 am.  Tickets for the Ladies Day festivities are $65 per guest when purchased in advance; $80 when purchased at the door. Included in the ticket price is the hat contest, reception with two drink tickets and light fare, live music, and raffle tickets for prizes donated by many Country Fair vendors. Admission to the show grounds is free on May 31st for all Ladies Day participants as well as any woman wearing an elegant hat. To purchase your ticket in advanced, please visit the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair website
