Lined up right next to her sister, Ava Kimmel was called out as the 8-and-Under Walk-and-Trot Equitation World’s Champion of Champions in the first class of the morning. Few riders have ever won here in two different years in this division, and it is fairly safe to say that nobody else has ever won two years apart! Qualifier winner in 2014, Ava is a tough little cookie for the Kierson Farm team. Sister Lana was right next to her with a big smile for her sister’s winning performance. With the ageless wonder, CH Hank Heiron, Amanda Liann Tremper took the reserve world’s championship for Northern Tradition Farm. Winner of the qualifier, Amanda has been a superstar all season long. In her second year out of academy, Amanda has 15 wins and six reserves in just those two years. Alexa Finley was thrilled with her yellow prize in third, while Madeline Von Ballmoos placed fourth.
With a heavy heart, it was a very special victory in the Junior Exhibitor Hackney Pleasure Driving World’s Championship for Zach Meyer. Driving Heartland Accolade to the unanimous win today, Zach had to have his grandparents in mind. They who had graced that winner’s circle so many times and given he and his family so many great opportunities to be a part of this horse show world. Grandpa Bob Anderson was always a star of this pleasure pony division, of course, but it was the all too recent loss of grandmother Nancy Anderson just this week that made this win extra special. She was certainly looking down with love alongside her husband. They were certainly proud of the Hollow Haven team and all of their wonderful family. Ella Reagan and Charmed Masterpiece were the reserve world’s champion of champions, their second reserve win of the week for Dr. Ginger Reagan. The Majestic Oaks entry has been part of their string for four seasons now. Charmed Masterpiece was a twice a winner here in 2014 in the adult division for Sandra Surber. This pony is by Truly A Masterpiece and out of Extremely Charmed. The Perfectionist and Danny Hicks were third for Marjorie Kenney, while Heartland Anthem and Rose Marie Wheeler finished fourth for Jayne Romano.
After eliminating over 30 contenders in Monday’s qualifier splits, the Adult Three-Gaited Show Pleasure World’s Championship still featured a field of 23 excellent entries. To win a unanimous world’s title in a group that large, it not only takes a special horse, but a special rider as well. Amanda Murchison could get a prize in here with an academy horse the way she works a ring. She just flat sells it. She follows the same pattern around the ring every time, rating her speed in the corners to set up her next pass. She and CH Spread The Word wore the blanket of flowers today for the very first time. Top three in this class in 2013 with CH Stocco and second a year ago with this beloved bay gelding, Amanda kept climbing the rungs to come away with the tricolor for Cater Stables. With David and Kristen Cater heading up the round of honor for Amanda, superhusband Gerry Murchison and Amanda’s dad, Mike O’Keefe, shared a big hug in the stands, celebrating the girl that they are both so devoted to. The first split from Monday proved to be the deepest, as Warrior’s Carumba was the reserve world’s champion of champions today with Laura Dozer Elliott. The entry of Stockings N Stripes LLC was also reserve in that first split. He is by Dorian Warriors Song and out of Walterway’s Love Me Forever. Laura is another who can really set herself up for success with great ringmanship. That’s what’s needed in a class like this. A smart rider will give her horse a better chance at those top prizes. Debbie Tomin has been there before for sure. She finished third with CH Mister French today. CH HS Dignitary got an exceptional ride from Cameron Kay to finish fourth for Killer LLC and DeLovely Farm.
The 9-year-old winner held off the older kids to win the 9-10 Walk-and-Trot Equitation World’s Championship this morning. Directed by Shelley Fisher, Isabelle Fischer was the world’s champion of champions in this one with Blue Over You. A longtime star of this division, Blue Over You is just the right fit for Isabelle. This was their fifth win of the season, sweeping up both blue ribbons on the week. Zach Duffy headed up the reserve world’s champion of champions, Stephanie Sanders. The two age group winners were top two in this one, as Stephanie was the 10-Year-Old Walk-and-Trot Equitation World’s Champion on Monday for Legacy Saddlebreds. Gracelynn Jordan continued her great success in third, while Ava Bertagnolli was a good fourth in this nice group.
Tim O’Brien had to be happy with the results of the Junior Exhibitor Show Pleasure Driving World’s Championship. His Brookhill Farm bred both the champion and reserve champion. Brookhill’s Express Yourself has had that seahorse shape to his head and neck since he was a baby, finishing as the reserve champion in the Bluegrass Weanling Futurity. All grown up and still a chiseled beauty, he and Brianna Tolkacz came back strong today to carry off the carnations. An entry of Kari and Brianna Tolkacz, Express Yourself is trained by Tom and Jamie Volz. He is by Brookhill’s Apollon, the O’Briens’ son of Harlem Town, and out of The Lady Lu Lu BH, by Catalyst. It was Brookhill’s Apollon again as the sire of the reserve world’s champion of champions, Brookhill’s Knockout. Driven by Caroline Rainbolt Forbes for the Rainbow Princess Farms, Knockout is out of the incredible producer CH It’s A Beautiful Day (BHF). The Sultan’s Great Day daughter’s presence is still felt on the green shavings 22 years after her last win here as the 1994 Adult Three-Gaited Show Pleasure World’s Champion of Champions with David Rudder. Mark Turner headed up Knockout once again today for the coal black gelding’s second reserve win of the week. Ro & Me’s Street Cents and Alex Provo were a solid third for Kary and Alex Provo. CH Meadowlark Jubilee and Libby Bowen settled for the white streamers today for Vickie Byrd.
Another top entry from Melrose LLC and Monnington Farm, He’s A Cool Cat was the Two-Year-Old Three-Gaited Section One World’s Champion with Sarah MacKenna. Sired by Catalyst and out of She’s In Style (BHF), Cool Cat carries on the family tradition of the broodmare hall of famer, showing all sorts of high and tight in the bridle. Herself a reserve world’s champion, She’s In Style had already produced world’s champions The Cat Walk and He’s In Style. Reserve world’s champions like Cat Can Do and Katniss also add to that mare’s impressive resume. Lionel Ferreira headed up his assistant, Sarah, who is twice a winner on the week already. Andre van Schalkwyk continued a great week in Freedom Hall with a reserve win aboard Rio Time. An entry of Teri Delsignore, Rio Time is by Simbara’s Rio Bravo and out of Callaway’s Comp Time, by Blue Norther. Rio Bravo is by Castle Bravo and out of a mare that is the famous old cross of Merchant Prince and Denmark’s Radiant Society (BHF), Simbara’s Special Someone. The Young Gun and Paul Cates finished third today, with Fancy Cat SS and Chuck Herbert fourth for Toni Nastali.
It was a fun moment in the winner’s circle in the Junior Harness Pony World’s Championship, as Rich Campbell ascended into the viceroy to make the victory pass with Heartland Hayday. Just a three-year-old and a world’s champion in that qualifier, Hayday is by Heartland Spice Of Life and out of Heartland Rosie. An entry of Sandra Surber, Hayday took Rich for a great trip on the green shavings. Maureen Campbell made the drive during the class for the blue ribbon. Rich simply explained that he was tired of walking all the way back from the winner’s circle to the in gate! Alicia Schuckert was the reserve world’s champion of champions with Heartland Dixie Dancer. The entry of Faydelle Schott is by Heartland Head Of The Class and out of Heartland Dixie. This pair took reserve in the four-year-old class earlier in the week as well.
Sallie Mason Wheeler showed off her ability as a jockey to claim a unanimous tricolor in the 13-and-Under Five-Gaited World’s Championship. She and Bodidly have had a tremendous season together for Kenny and Ceil Wheeler and Mercer Springs Farm. She looked very pleased with her prize today with the son of Heir Emerald and Callaway’s Crepe Myrtle, by Caramac. An open horse just last year, it took a serious 13-and-under rider to team with this high octane horse. The Mercer Springs team knows what a luxury it is to have a hand like Sallie Mason to put aboard these horses. Borrowed for the season from Camille Cowart, Callaway’s Don’t Blink took Cashlynn Lovell to the reserve world’s champion of champions title, as Parker Lovell became a crying mess and trainer Kim Cowart cheered from the in gate. They just kept getting better as the season wore on, peaking with their best ride yet today in the tricolor round. Caramac figures into this one as the sire of Don’t Blink. She is out of Callaway’s Claudette, a Will Shriver mare. That’s some great old Callaway Hills blood behind this one. King’s Carma and Nissa Sultan turned in another great go for third for Matt Shiflet Stables, while Agent Cool Blue and Clayton Stinnett finished fourth in this high-powered group.
To say it has been a great 24 hours for Cater Stables would be an understatement. After Molly Codeanne’s win in the senior equitation championship last night and Amanda Murchison’s win of the adult show pleasure championship today, everything else had to be gravy. Well gravy tastes great. And the Caters hung another blanket of flowers in the Show Pleasure Driving World’s Championship. Cathy Rogers-Holmes and her longtime partner CH Who reached the top of the hill today as the world’s champion of champions. Teamed up now for six years, Who and Cathy were reserve in their qualifier this week, twice reserve a year ago, and reserve in their qualifier in 2014. What a time to win your first class! Just finishing out their first calendar year together, Sally Grieme and Honey I’m Good were the reserve world’s champion of champions for Crumpler Stables. The entry of Perry and Sally Grieme has been lower than second just once all year long in this competitive division, their first year in these ranks. Winner of the section two split, Honey I’m Good is by Belle Reve’s Renaissance Man and out of Wind Fantasy. Sarah Rowland finished her fairytale week with Henry The Second in third for Ever Glades Farm, with Leatherwood Lift Off and Linda Fischer in fourth for Judah Saddlebreds.
With half brother Heartland Accolade winning the kids version of this class earlier today, Heartland Sugar Plum was the Adult Hackney Pleasure Driving World’s Champion of Champions with Helen Rich. Winner of the second split on Tuesday, they showed back hard today to take the tricolor back to Majestic Oaks. A cob-tail winner at the Royal last year, Sugar Plum is just a five-year-old by Heartland Rain And Fire and out of Heartland Extra Elegant. Still undefeated in this division, Sugar Plum is a special young star. Section one winner Romeo’s Highlander LF was the reserve world’s champion of champions with the incomparable catch driver Linda Fischer at the helm. This one is by Romeo LF and out of Regal’s Maryann LF. This was just the second show in this division for Highlander, the Kentucky County Fair Road Pony Reserve Champion here last year. CH Mastercraft’s Namesake LF and Chad Graham were third here for Ralph and Sharla Deuschle, with Romeo’s Contender LF and Randy Bowen a good fourth.
Lauren Evans and Supreme Spotlight were the unanimous winners of the Junior Saddle Seat Equitation World’s Championship. With a workout that required precision, Lauren hit her points under the direction of Sarah Lawson and the DeLovely team. The Colorado-based rider has excelled this year despite the long distance travel to Destination DeLovely. This was their sixth win of the year and second on the green shavings. They were the 12-13 world’s champions on Sunday. Sofia Rashid was a world’s champion here in 2012 back in her walk-and-trot days. She stepped up in 2014 for another win in the 11-and-Under Saddle Seat Equitation World’s Championship. Today she finished out her junior equitation career on the green shavings with a reserve tricolor under the direction of Jimmy and Georgia Morrison. Georgia held true to her word, making sure she had her baby early enough to make it to Louisville this year. Alayna Applegate and Rob New York finished third for Shelley Fisher, while Ashley Perry took home the white streamers in fourth. Finn Cooper and Emma Phelan also made the cut for the workout, finishing fifth and sixth.
The top two in the Junior Hackney Pony World’s Championship were both by Craycroft Matador. Craycroft Hallelujah held the spot atop this one as the unanimous world’s champion of champions with Jeff McClean. Out of Seamair’s Dancer, Hallelujah was the reserve winner in the four-year-old qualifier. Trading spots from that round on Tuesday, Lola was the reserve world’s champion of champions with Maureen Campbell. Out of Shirley Shirley EF, Lola gave Mark Hyatt the distinction of registered breeder of both of these top two ponies. Thunder Ridge Ranch is listed as the owner of Lola.
Lismore’s Magnut was the slick-racking bay winner of the Two-Year-Old Five-Gaited World’s Championship with Lionel Ferreira. It takes a special youngster to be able to make it through this class, and Magnut is just that for Melrose LLC. By Undulata’s Nutcracker and out of Worthy Moonglow, this one has size and strength to burn as just a two-year-old. Pieter Snyman debuted with Stolen Heir to be the reserve world’s champion for The Great Adventure Equestrian Inc. This one can really push up into the bridle for sire Heir Emerald and dam Worth Steeling. Second dam is the grand mare, CH Creditworthy. Darrell Case and I Am What I Am was third for Nick and Carol Antich.
Olivia Turner cried Louisville tears of joy today as the 13-and-Under Road Pony World’s Champion of Champions with Take It To The Limit. Directed by Majestic Oaks and headed up by her dad, Mark Turner, Olivia was the winner of this qualifier on Sunday, but when it comes with a blanket of flowers and that tricolor prize, it means just a little bit more. Their first season together has now featured seven wins in seven trips to the ring. Rich Campbell got a nice salute as there was a timeout on the reverse for a broken piece of equipment. He came into the ring and called for the Majestic Oaks backup bag, even though it was a competitor’s entry. With a new piece of leather from the magical bag, that competitor continued on to be the reserve world’s champion of champions. Seamair Strutter and Nick Schubert came in cranking and never let up for trainer Anne Neil. Second in this one, Strutter has been a star here all his life, winning the 2002 Junior Road Pony World’s Championship with Josh Greer. Outside The Lines and Ashley Creekmore took third for Thomas R. Brock Jr., while Dimitri and Olivia Schumacher were fourth for Majestic Oaks.
Aurora’s Annie and Annie Up can have a conversation about who is the better broodmare named “Annie.” They were the dams of the world’s champion of champions and reserve world’s champion of champions in the Junior Three-Gaited Park division. Reversing the places from the qualifier, Nirvana’s Nevermind came away with the tricolor for Jim Stachowski and Rhyann Stables. Sired by Nutcracker’s Nirvana, Nevermind is out of the Callaway’s Northern Kiss mare, Aurora’s Annie. All hinged up and coal black, Nevermind moves in that signature Stachowski style. Sired by Designed and out of Annie Up, Altar Of The Sun was the reserve winner with Daniel Lockhart. The Kalarama-trained entry is owned by the estate of Jim Orr. Annie Up just continues to hit, especially when crossed with the great Designed. Completely Fancy and Derrick Westbrook made a great show in third for Devore Stables. Ultimate Blue and Tre Lee finished fourth for Calico Farms.
Gene van der Walt had the winner of the Two-Year-Old Fine Harness Mare World’s Championship for the second year in a row. A year ago it was Goddess Of War to be the winner, while today The Other Side Of Grace was the unanimous top call. By Dylann’s Desert Admiral, this long and tall chestnut mare is out of Rare Southern Grace. Gene and Annalize van der Walt are the owners and breeders of this filly, a half sister to world’s champion Just Like That. There’s Nuttin’ Like A Dame and Darrell Case were up next as the reserve world’s champions for Willowbank and Sandra Corney. By Undulata’s Nutcracker, this one is out of the Sir William Robert mare, Robert’s Passion. The bottom line reads like a who’s who, with reserve world’s champion Passion and the great world’s grand champion Finisterre’s Gift Of Love as the second and third dams. Jim Lowry and Ashlyn’s Elegant Lady made a good show in third for Faydelle Schott.
Burt Honaker is a smart man. He didn’t have to look outside his home state of Virginia to find the right catch rider for Undulata’s Snowflake. An entry of Burt’s wife, Miriam Hirshon, and mother-in-law, Roberta Hirshon, Snowflake is by Designed and out of Christmas In New York ERB. Burt once again went with Sallie Mason Wheeler as his rider of choice. She earned three more first place votes on the day, making it six total in two classes shown. She captured the 13-and-Under Country Pleasure World’s Championship with this horse that refused to back an ear all class long. The Legacy Saddlebreds team had another reason to celebrate today, as Caroline Brackenridge was the reserve world’s champion of champions. Always a talented mare, the daughter of Callaway’s Guy Park and Callaway’s Caroline Jackson teamed up with Emma Grace Lovell for another good trip. Winners of the second split of the qualifier, Emma Grace and Caroline have been reserve champions at four shows this year: Raleigh Spring Premier, Asheville, Lexington, and now Louisville. WS Our Dresden Doll and Catherine Ploughman were third in this group of 16 qualifiers, followed by CH Spurwing’s Queen Anna and MyMy Singh in fourth for WoodLeigh Farm.
With three in the ring for Majestic Oaks, it was Holli Hayes making the last pass with Heartland Land Rover. It was one of those delayed reactions where the back number doesn’t resonate with the driver but the pony’s name does. Once Holli figured it out, she was on her way down to the winner’s circle for Carter McGlothlin. Winner of the four-year-old class on Tuesday, Land Rover is by Heartland Code Of Honor and out of Seamair’s War Dance. Majestic Oaks had the trifecta in this one, as Abel Salazar was the reserve world’s champion of champions with Unexpected 2. This one is owned by Jack Tatum III. By Heartland Head Of The Class and out of Kilbro’s Grandemeanor, Unexpected 2 made today the day to put it all together for a career best performance. Maureen Campbell and Regal’s Creation LF finished third for Toni Nastali, while Heartland Inspired and Alicia Schuckert were fourth for Faydelle Schott.
A full brother to world’s champion Grey Ridge Wildcat, Rocket Man got better and better as the class wore on for Bret Day and owner Mary Krentz. The Two-Year-Old Fine Harness Stallion/Gelding World’s Champion found his feet about 10 steps into the ring and just took off from there. By Undulata’s Nutcracker and out of Torrential, this bay gelding was top three in the weanling futurity in 2014. Debbie Foley had the reserve world’s champion in HS I’m Dreaming The Blues. By the supremely athletic Callaway’s Bluesman, this one is out of I Am The Dream, the full sister to the later A Daydream Believer (BHF). Still owned by Hagan Saddlebreds, I’m Dreaming The Blues continued his family’s winning ways. Rare Back and Pedro Martinez were the yellow ribbon winners, while Whassup and Smith Lilly finished fourth.
