Lionel Ferreira pulled one out of his hat this morning, as his rider won the Five-Gaited Pony World’s Championship on a three-year-old! They’ve been doing it all season long for Monnington Farm, as Anna Schweitzer and Riverdreams Marc Of Reflection were the blue ribbon winners to kick off Monday morning. Sired by Marc Of Charm and out of Artimis, this goes a long way to show how well the Marc Of Charm babies are going to think. Roxie In Vegas and Alex Rudder were the reserve world’s champions for David Rudder. This was the sixth straight reserve win for this team. By Northern Vegas and out of Miss Roxie Hart, this is her first year in the show ring. The Rest Of The Story and Olivia Schumacher finished third, followed by Ultimate Spitfire and Hannah Herbst in fourth.
The 13-and-Under Country Pleasure division was actually deserving of a split, and these kids rode hard for the section one blue. Sallie Mason Wheeler’s sensational week continued with a blue ribbon trip aboard Undulata’s Snowflake. This was her second win of the day for Roberta and Miriam Hirshon. She at least had a practice show with this one, winning a class at Bonnie Blue this year. Snowflake is by Designed and out of Christmas In New York ERB, the dam of Undulata’s Nutcracker. Emerson Stoy and Radiant Joy gave the R and R Stables team a big reason to cheer as the reserve world’s champions. The entry of Tamera Froehlich is by Radiant Sultan and out of Going Public. Barnmate Camille Talkington rode this horse to the 13-and-Under Country Pleasure National Championship last year. WS Our Dresden Doll and Catherine Ploughman celebrated their third place prize, while CH Spurwing’s Queen Anna and MyMy Sing finished fourth for WoodLeigh Farm.
Emma Grace Lovell and Caroline Brackenridge have been a spectacular team all year long. They have been in the top two of their last eight trips to the show ring, including such deep competition as Lexington and Asheville. Today they made it into the top spot all by themselves as the 13-and-Under Country Pleasure Section Two World’s Champions. By Callaway’s Guy Park and out of Callaway’s Caroline Jackson, Caroline Brackenridge is owned by Legacy Saddlebreds LLC. Mae Luce is the juvenile of choice for Reiser Stables. They put her up on We’re All Nuts to take the reserve world’s championship for World Calm LLC. This one is by Undulata’s Nutcracker and out of Miss Heirica Kane. They were champions at Shelbyville earlier this month. Kate Smith and Nuttin’ But Fancy SS finished third in this one, with Thea Merlo and CH Highpoint’s Grandee in fourth.
Winner of section three last year, Amanda Murchison and CH Spread The Word were winners of the first split today in Adult Three-Gaited Show Pleasure. It would be hard to find anyone that shows harder than Amanda, and she has found the perfect teammate under the Cater Stables banner. Sired by Harlem’s Friendly Conversation and out of Dream About Me, Spread The Word has all the motor to go along with ears that don’t move and a ton of charisma. This is the third time in the last four years that Amanda has won a split of this class, this time as the unanimous choice. Warrior’s Carumba and Laura Elliott were the Reserve World’s Champions in this good group. This team also won a split of their qualifier last year. Carumba is by Dorian Warriors Song and out of Walterway’s Love Me Forever. An entry of Stockings N Stripes LLC, Warrior’s Carumba was the champion at Blue Ridge last month. Callaway’s Kix and Tracy Garcia were a hard charging third, while MBA’s Nuttin’ But Blue and Brittany Baird kept the MBA train rolling along in fourth.
Louisville has become “Splitsville,” as some of the divisions that have been condensed over the years have filled back up. This class has always been a 17-and-under class, but it had enough entries to warrant a split. The first split of Road Pony Under Saddle went back to Cedarwood Farm, as Drum Beat rocketed down victory lane with Remi Adams. It’s not hard to pick out Remi’s cheering section and supporters, as they all rock the lime green and hot pink shirts to celebrate “Jake from State Farm.” They were winners for the fourth straight class, with this one carrying a World’s Championship title. Danelle Howser and Chuck Herbert headed up their charge, a sporty pony by Twin Willow’s McMillan and out of T.W. Whisper Diamonds. Kelly Kraegel headed up the reserve world’s champion, Regal’s Double Trouble LF, giving Cottonwood Creek a third breed to enjoy success with. Kinslie Dougherty is the owner and good rider of this one, by Dun-Haven Regal Attraction and out of Francine’s Promise Me LF. Maisie Benfield and Extremely Grand Design finished third for a thrilled Lisa McMackin, with Chunky Monkey getting a good chuckle from the crowd for a fun name, taking fourth with Madison Pope.
Cocked-N-Ready has about the best suited name for this division. Alex Rudder keeps him right on the line under the direction of Gerhardt Roos. They were the Road Pony Under Saddle Section Two World’s Champions, having won the tricolor round her last year. Cocked-N-Ready is by LLF Top Of The Mark and out of Miss Kallie. Makenzie Moore and Hightower were the reserve world’s champions in this group for Catherine and Makenzie Moore. This was the best prize yet for Makenzie and Hightower for one of their best rides. They were champions earlier this year at Chattanooga/Cleveland Charity. Turbo Blue and Jordyn Isgrigg finished third here, while Time To Go and Mandy Bray were fourth for Julianne Wilson.
Jennie Turner Garlington’s record in the Five-Gaited Show Pleasure qualifiers here is ridiculous. She has won a split of this class in 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2014, and now 2016. The one other time she showed in it was last year, when she was second. Today she avenged that lone blemish with Pass With Care to win the world’s championship in the first split of gaited pleasure. Danny Lockhart and Kelly Self headed up the winner for Kalarama Farm. Ali DeGray rode the hair off Billy Deluxe today, fighting hard for the Reserve World’s Championship. This is their first Louisville together for owner/mom Helen Rich and trainer Tammy Devore. Their last outing was at Asheville, where they took the tricolor. Billy Deluxe is by CH Superior’s Successor and out of Wind Drift’s Back Talk. Morgan Brison and Gentleman got a good pop from the crowd in third for Fairview Farm. Kalarama’s Mr. All American and Lauren Osborne rode hard for fourth for Glitter Farms LLC.
Five classes in Freedom Hall and 15 first place votes are the totals so far for Eleanor Rainbolt Forbes and CH Nuttin’ But Style. Sired by Undulata’s Nutcracker and out of CH Heir Style, this picture perfect pony is owned by the Rainbow Princess Farms and trained by DesMar Stables. Eleanor rode to the unanimous win today in the first split of Three-Gaited Pony. When asked whether the farm name would be changed from “Rainbow Princess” to “Rainbow Queen” when the girls aged out after this year, Eleanor, quick as a whip, joked back, “No! Rainbow Empress!” CH Manhattan’s Irish Cream and Kylie Jankowicz had the Legacy Saddlebreds team going wild as the reserve world’s champions, as the exceptional son of Simply Manhattan and Absolut Irish just keeps going. His first show here was in 2005, when he was the Three-Gaited Pony World’s Champion of Champions, and he just refuses to miss a beat. He is just built for this job and has all the heart in the world. Our Cabaret and Haley Hildreth were third for Luanne Wendland, while Right Up Here and Shelby Chancellor were fourth for a familiar name in Freedom Hall, Shane Chancellor.
The littlest of the bunch got the biggest of the prizes in the second group, as Bravia and Molly Crim were the Three-Gaited Pony Section Two World’s Champions for Steven Myers and trainer Tammy Devore. These two continued their undefeated streak in Freedom Hall, as they were twice winners here last year in walk-and-trot! They’ve taken to cantering quite nicely, taking a tricolor ride at Chattanooga/Cleveland Charity earlier this year. The high-stepping bay beauty, Faizah took the reserve win with Sydney Dunaway. Owned by Jim and Sara McDowell, Faizah is by Kalarama’s Spanish Dancer and out of Batteries Are Not Included. Faizah and Sydney have been teamed up for this entire decade, and it shows in the ring. They are a seamless unit every time out. Class President and Madeline Mayer were third in this one for MJK Equestrienne LLC, while Double Charmed took Blake Crim to fourth for LVG Stables in the class that his little sister won.
Deborah Orr delivered a master class on how to put a horse over the top in Adult Three-Gaited Show Pleasure Section Two. She powered Iza Diva to her first world’s championship under the direction of Neil Visser. You gotta love the horse business. Deborah has shown this mare most of the season for her friends the Judah family. Iza Diva is by Thundergun and out of I’m A Diva Too, a full sister to the great CH Riva Diva. Beata Flatley Lilja wrapped her arms around the neck of her longtime partner, Harlem’s Showman. They were called out as the reserve world’s champions today under the direction of Strickland Stables. The gorgeous black gelding is in his first season in this division, delivering Beata her best ever Louisville finish. Worthy Sir and Danielle Dubay Navarro were third for Johanna Kapioltas, while A Papparazzi and Maggie Karampelas finished fourth for Dr. Gail Tasch.
CH Seamair Simply Awesome was right on point today to take the Amateur Gentlemen’s Hackney Pony World’s Championship. Maureen Campbell was cheering loud and proud directing driver John Wrather. This was the third year in a row for Simply Awesome to win a class here for owner Charlotte Wrather. He is by Dun-Haven Truly Awesome and out of Heartland Simplicity. They are now six for six on the season. Jeff McClean and last year’s winner, Heartland Road Show, took the reserve prize for Golden Creek Farms. This one is by Heartland Blackhawk and out of Heartland Just A Princess. This one was the Amateur Reserve World’s Champion of Champions the last two years and the reserve world’s grand champion the year before that. Crystal Creek’s Dr. Hill and Carl Nichols rounded out the top three for Crystal Creek Farms.
It was a unanimous choice that sent Randy Stoess to the far end of the ring to head up his 14-17 Country Pleasure Section One World’s Champion, Deer Hill’s Hyperion. Joana Jackson had her cheering section and owner Jennifer Stoecker in tears of joy as she made the ride to the far end. A winner at Shelby County Fair and Shelbyville, Hyperion is by Callaway’s Northern Kiss and out of Manhattan Rainbow. Madison Mulligan and her self-trained charge, Bella La Donna, were the reserve world’s champions from their home base of Minnesota. These two had won five straight back home coming into this morning’s performance. Owned by mom Michelle Mulligan, Bella La Donna is sired by The Last Don and out of Albelarm Impulse. Lord Balanchine and Allison Burt made the long trip from Colorado to finish third, while Monnington Status Quo and Malika Keglowitsch were fourth for DeLovely.
Amanda Liann Tremper and CH Hank Heiron were tops in the 8-and-Under Walk-and-Trot Equitation World’s Championship. Tom Thorpe and Tom D. Pettry headed the winning team up for Northern Tradition Farm. Winners at every show they have been to this season, Amanda and Hank have a serious age difference, as she is just 8 while he is 22 and going strong! Ava Kimmel kept her string of good reserves going for the season, earning an extra special one today for Kierson Farm. The reserve world’s champion today, Ava was the winner of this class two years ago. Read that again… Two years ago she was the winner of this class for eight-and-under riders and is still showing in it! She was SIX when she won it! Madeline Von Ballmoos was an excited third, with Anastasia McDowell finishing fourth.
The battle of the full brothers went to Twin Willow’s Handsome Dan today. He and Jeff McClean were winners of this Amateur Gentlemen’s Harness Pony World’s Championship for the fifth time now for Golden Creek Farms. Handsome Dan is now five for five on the year. Remington was the reserve world’s champion with John Wrather, as these two gentlemen continued their rivalry by each taking a winning drive today. The Remington is a flashy bay pony with lots of chrome. He was the winner of this class last season.
Alexis Braswell got to make the catch ride today to win the Adult Five-Gaited Show Pleasure Section Two World’s Championship aboard Simbara’s Cup Of Sugar. Owned by Nancy Hawley and trained by Peter and Kim Cowart, Cup Of Sugar is by Simbara’s Living Legend and out of the grand harness mare, Sugar Pine. Megan McClure has also made catch rides with this horse on the season, and it was her name that appeared on the scoreboard! This was just the second show for Alexis and Cup Of Sugar, and they made it count. McGee Bosworth and CH I’m Something Wicked have become synonymous with success in the gaited pleasure ranks. They took the reserve world’s championship back to High Caliber Stables for Pair of Jacks Stables. By Santana’s Charm and out of Penny’s Free Spirit, I’m Something Wicked has been teamed with McGee for five seasons now. Fox Grape’s Sierra Madre and Dr. Owen Weaver finished third in this good group for Autumn Hills Farm. Kalarama’s New Moon and Jennie Turner Garlington took the white ribbon for fourth back to Kalarama.
Grace McDonell was beside herself with joy when her number was called out atop the 14-17 Country Pleasure Section Two World’s Championship. She showed It’s Sam I Am to the top prize for Gamine LLC. Trained by High Caliber Stables, Sam I Am was escorted to the winner’s circle by Mary Orr. Sired by Samur and out of Simply Thunderful, Sam I Am was also a winner at Asheville and Lexington this year, not to mention River Ridge and J.D. Massey. The top two at Lexington were the top two here as well, as G.V. Silver Oak was the Reserve World’s Champion with Sommer Justice. The entry of Grand Vin Stables is by Gothic Revival and out of Radiant Talent. Sommer came back at Lexington to take the tricolor, so it will be fun to watch these two duke it out again with the addition of the first split winners. Wild I Am and Jacquelyn King finished third for DeLovely, while Penrod Jashper and Madison Pope earned fourth for Linda Cozad.
Hopkins kept getting better and faster as the class wore on to score a unanimous win in the Amateur Road Pony 50”-and-Under World’s Championship. Last year it was Toni Nastali at the lines for a winning drive, while this year Georgia Blevins did the honors with the same result. Now owned by Dr. T.J. and Georgia Blevins, Hopkins is trained by Majestic Oaks. His victory pass today was a superb one, squatting way down and strutting. Meredithe Steinhauer and Born On The Bayou were outstanding as well, finishing as the Reserve World’s Champions for Strickland Stables. This was three reserve wins in a row for Meredithe, as she was twice reserve with this pony at Midwest Charity as well. Born On The Bayou is the celebrated product of Sugarland and Mardi Gras. Allie Wellington Nunley was a good third with Palisades’ Ladyhawke, followed by Heartland River Dance and Joe Harrod in fourth.
Second a year ago and now the world’s champion this time around, CH Mister French was the winner of the Adult Three-Gaited Show Pleasure Section Three World’s Championship. Debbie Tomin was beyond thrilled with her special horse, who arrived on Air Horse One from his California home base. By Sir William Robert, Mister French is out of Debbie’s “heart horse,” CH French Silk Stockings, one of the winningest American Saddlebreds of all time and a horse that Debbie rode down this very same victory lane under the direction of husband Bill Tomin. Cameron Kay was rocketing down the middle with CH HS Dignitary to put her number up toward the top of the cards. She finished as the reserve world’s champion for Max Liberty’s Killer LLC and the DeLovely team. Dignitary is also by Sir William Robert and out of A Daydream Believer (BHF). They have been in the top two of every class this season, taking the tricolor at Midwest Charity. Third in this group of 20 went to Total Knockout and Drew Taylor Hewitt for Elisabeth Goth. The white streamers looked good with the black horse, CH Royal Crest’s Rhinestone Cowboy, ridden by Jessica Lindstrom.
Isabelle Fischer made her Louisville debut a great one, scoring the 9-Year-Old Walk-and-Trot Equitation World’s Championship with Blue Over You. Shelley Fisher directs this team, also winners at River Ridge and Kentucky Spring Premier this year. Shelley had the 2014 winner of this class as well in Alayna Applegate, also teamed up with this grand horse. Last year’s Eight-and-Under Walk-and-Trot Equitation World’s Champion of Champions, Ava Bertagnolli was the reserve world’s champion here, directed by mom Jodi Bertagnolli. Amber Lager once again teamed up with Ava for a good result. Gracelynn Jordan is a very correct rider. She finished third, with Katlyn Maser finishing fourth.
A sensational group came to the ring for the Three-Gaited Park Mare class, with Callaway’s Aperitif holding her spot atop the division for the second year in a row. Still owned by SGF Winning Ways Farm, Aperitif was this time ridden by Sherry Frankel’s daughter, Lauren Greenwald. The unanimous choice of the judges is by CH Caramac and out of Callaway’s Sweet Clover. Lauren took over the reins for this season. She is part of the training team at Taylor Creek for Wes and Sena Bowling. Enchanted Kiss got a huge sendoff from the crowd. Derrick Westbrook tipped his hat to the crowd aboard the entry of Helen Rich. This one is incredibly hinged up by Callaway’s Northern Kiss and out of Rare Assurance. This is the first year in the park division for the exquisite mare, shown to great success all season long. I’m A Holiday and Kenny Smith were up next in third, with Anna Wintour and Bill Waller taking the white streamers in fourth.
Long-necked and always just right in the bridle, IAmNotACow gave Zoe Schaffel her first World’s Championship win as the Youth Roadster to Bike World’s Champion. Headed up by David Chretien, IAmNotACow was the Amateur World’s Champion of Champions last year with Zoe’s dad, Martin Schaffel. Zoe has always had good luck with the silks on, taking three reserve world’s championships with P.T. Cruiser in her junior exhibitor days. Winner of this class the last two years, Thunder Up was the reserve world’s champion today with Caroline Rainbolt Forbes. From the Rainbow Princess Farms, Thunder Up made one of his best shows of the season to score a nice prize in this good class. Fast Track GRS and Jessi McCurry were third for Maureen Campbell.
Deborah Jahn scored a blue ribbon for trainer Abel Vega with Regal’s Night Shadow LF. Amateur Champion at Lexington and Midwest Charity, Night Shadow is by Dun-Haven Regal Attraction and out of Romeo’s Sweet Sugar LF. Deborah drove to the Amateur Road Pony 50-52” World’s Championship today. Abel drove this one just a year ago to win the open version of this class. Carolina Dreaming and Donna Whatley made a great drive for the reserve world’s championship for Majestic Oaks. By Heartland High Tech and out of Chasing A Dream, Carolina Dreaming was reserve in this class a year ago as well. This is Donna’s third season with the pony, and they continue to get better and better.
Stephanie Sanders had one of her best rides ever to win the 10-Year-Old Walk-and-Trot Equitation World’s Championship. This was her eighth victory pass of the season. Stephanie was the 8-and-Under Walk-and-Trot Equitation Reserve World’s Champion of Champions two years ago. Sara Evans and CH Keeper Of The Stars were the reserve winners today for High Caliber Stables. Six for six on the season coming into today, Sara was also a reserve world’s champion in her age group last year. Emma Wright and Kendall Savage finished third and fourth respectively.
