Anna Marie Knipp had a smile a mile wide as she beat back the trainers to win the ASR Four-Year-Old Fine Harness Sweepstakes in unanimous style. She drove Katharine The Great to this big money win. Headed up for the round of honor by Bob Brison and Nick Kinsinger, Katharine The Great is by Undulata’s Nutcracker and out of Katharine’s Perfect Night. The long-necked and gorgeous mare was the ASR National Three-Year-Old Fine Harness Futurity World’s Champion last year. Sired by Sir William Robert and out of the gaited mare, Rock This Town, Kitty Hill was the reserve winner with George Knight at the lines. Another great entry of Carolyn Garrett, Kitty Hill was the Junior Fine Harness winner at Shelbyville earlier this month.
It was quite a crew in the first split of 14-17 Five-Gaited. Emma Sanchez held down the top spot for the second year in a row, winning it unanimously with CH He’s In Style. The hinged up chestnut son of Deep Blue and She’s In Style (BHF) was a sight tonight for owner Sharyn Lackey and trainers Peter and Kim Cowart. Unbeaten on the season, they just continue to shine with wins from Asheville to Midwest and Lexington. Last year’s 14-17 Five-Gaited National Champion, CH Callaway’s No More Mr. Nice Guy made one of his best shows of the year with Payton Lynn Walker. They scored the reserve world’s championship in their second Louisville together. Owned by Ginny Stanley, No More Mr. Nice Guy is by Callaway’s Blue Norther and out of Sweet Sachet (BHF). He’s Born To Royalty and Catherine Wheeler were a speedy third, with Tango Mango and Emily Candelaria finishing fourth for Maria Gilman.
The kid parade continued with the Junior Exhibitor Show Pleasure Driving qualifier. Three times a reserve world’s champion in amateur park, CH Meadowlark Jubilee scored the victory tonight, driving down victory lane with Libby Bowen at the lines for Vickie Byrd. Directed by Mary and Evan Orr, the bay daughter of Harlem’s Hot Town and Harlem’s Country Girl was in high style tonight for the blue. The pretty black Brookhill’s Knockout was up next as the reserve world’s champion with Caroline Rainbolt Forbes. This is the first year for Knockout to show in harness and the first year to be teamed with Caroline for the Rainbow Princess Farms. Knockout is directed by DesMar Stables. Ro & Me’s Street Cents was a good third for Kary and Alex Provo, while CH Harlem’s Miss Abigail finished fourth with Whitney Shore.
Katherine Meints and James Natoli scored the big money as the winners of the ASR Four-Year-Old Park Pleasure Sweepstakes. They were the owners of record for Simply Magical, guided to a unanimous win in this one by Jim Lowry. Headed up by Fay Lowry and Larry Bolen, Simply Magical is by First Watch and out of Harlem’s Rare Magic. With all kinds of curve and beauty, the dark bay Raging was the reserve winner with Ray Krussell. This one is by A Superb Manhattan and out of Night Rage. Raging is owned by Debbie Hoffman. Ray is always in the top prizes with this young horse. Peetater and Alex Gravett were third here for Carl T. Fischer Jr., with Game Changer and Gerhardt Roos finishing fourth for Gil and Carole Sabatello.
Wish Me Radiant made trainers Wes and Sena Bowling proud as the winner of the first split of Junior Exhibitor Five-Gaited Show Pleasure. He teamed up with Camryn Silverton tonight for Jennifer and Camryn Silverton. Sired by CH Callaway’s Wish Me Will and out of A Touch Of Radiance, the bright chestnut peaked at just the right moment. He was the winner of this class at Syracuse International earlier this year. Michigan beat Ohio in this one, as Call Of The West was the reserve world’s champion with Cecelia Bolka. This one also peaked at the right time for owner Lisa Ulliman. Call Of The West is by West Wing and out of Worth A Call. Cece had her best ride yet with the sporty star. Lucky You Lucky Me and Tea Snider got some good crowd support in third for Duane and Tonna Snider. Grand Master Flash and Haley Griffin were a good fourth for Ginger Griffin.
Mike McIntosh made the long run to the far end in record time to greet the 13-and-Under Three-Gaited Section One World’s Champion, Manipulating The Stars. His step might have been a little quicker since he is also the owner of this one, along with Carla McIntosh. They picked the right catch rider tonight in Alayna Applegate. Alayna rode the jet black beauty to two wins at Dayton and picked right back up here tonight with a spectacular show. The SMS team went wild for Nissa Sultan’s second good prize of the day. She was the reserve world’s champion with Tia Margarita. This was the sixth straight reserve win for Nissa and Tia Margarita, including two at Lexington this year. Tia Margarita is by Blue O’Shea and out of Callaway’s Kismet. Sallie Mason Wheeler scored the yellow ribbon with Undulata’s Secret Rendezvous, while CH High Heat and Molly Crim got a big pop from the crowd in fourth.
The second section of 13-and-Under Three-Gaited saw Ray Krussell and Wendy Carney pinning on the ribbon of choice. Their charge in this one was Memphis Gal, teamed with Mallory Pertler. Perfectly suited for this division, Memphis Gal is by Ritz Kracker and out of In The Beginning. She never dropped an ear or put a foot out of place in this one, running her winning streak to four. Chris Reiser was thrilled with Pennyrile and catch rider Mae Luce. They were the reserve world’s champions for Carolyn Stuart. By Undulata’s Nutcracker, the punched up Pennyrile is out of Sweet Illusion W.F., the dam of World’s Grand Champion An Heir About Her. Mae also rode Pennyrile to the Junior Exhibitor Three-Gaited Championship at Shelbyville this month. Third in this second group went to CH Stravinsky and Haley Leighton, while Rise & Shine and Anna McCleary took a good fourth.
Mary Orr was in tears as she ran alongside Finest Hour Spent and Laura Plant as the Junior Exhibitor Five-Gaited 14-17 Section Two World’s Champions. This horse has been second most all year long, finishing reserve nine times in a row at one point, while facing the deepest competition. Tonight, the swan-necked chestnut gelding rose to the top under the brightest of lights. By I’m A New Yorker and out of A Tad Finer, Finest Hour Spent is an exquisitely beautiful horse. The Kentucky County Fair Five-Gaited Champion just last night, Mark Of Perfection was back at it again with the popular catch rider, Jozee Johnson. Jozee gets the call for most of Clouse Stables’ juvenile rides, and she showed why once again tonight. She also rode Mark Of Perfection to a win at Shelbyville this month. Sir Blue and Lindsay Slemmons scored a good third, while Mountainview’s North Star took fourth with Garrett Weiler.
Tango’s Token Kiss has still never been beaten by a horse in his own age group. He took the ASR Four-Year-Old Three-Gaited Sweepstakes tonight with Smith Lilly up for Grace Arnold. By Tango’s Parting Kiss and out of CF Deny Me Not, Token Kiss was the unanimous pick tonight, having won here as both a two-year-old and a three-year-old as well. A reserve world’s champion last year and this year again, Sir Graham Cracker took the reserve prize with Kelly Lockhart. Owned by Kathy Capsuto Walker, Sir Graham Cracker is by Sir William Robert and out of Crackers In Bed. He was second last year in the ASR National Three-Year-Old Fine Harness Futurity, a program that Kathy seems to earn money from each and every year. Lionel Ferreira and Lismore’s A Nutter One finished third for Dr. Merrell Magelli, while At Your Best and Matt Shiflet rounded out the top four four-year-olds.
Reagan Campbell’s move up to the 14-17 division has gone just fine with CH Real Action. She took another blue ribbon ride aboard the gorgeous chestnut son of Desert’s Supreme Memories and Callaway’s Worth Waiting For, winning the first split of the 14-17 Three-Gaited division. Trained by Bill and Lisa Waller, Real Action is owned by Darby, Amy, and Reagan Campbell. Reagan and Real Action were the 13-and-Under Three-Gaited World’s Champion of Champions last year. Winner of her 14-17 split here a year ago, Ava Stachowski was up for the reserve world’s championship tonight, once again showing Prince Of Prowlin’ for mom Shawn Stachowski. Twice a winner at Rock Creek, Prince Of Prowlin’ is by Callaway’s Guy Park and out of Prowler’s Pagan Princess, by CH Night Prowler. Nuttin But The Best and Gabrielle Paverd were up next in third, followed by Watermark’s A Kiss For Luck and Merrick Semans in fourth.
It was a unanimous win for CH Swing An Singin, the Junior Exhibitor Three-Gaited Park Section One World’s Champion for the second year in a row. Catherine Wheeler once again made the winning ride in her quiet style for trainer Smith Lilly and owners Ceil and Kenny Wheeler. It has been two straight seasons without a loss for these two superstars. Swing An Singin is by Designed and out of Reedann’s Supreme Glow. She skyrocketed to fame here in 2010 as the Junior Three-Gaited 15.2-and-Under World’s Champion. One of the stars of the 2014 World’s Championship Horse Show, Crackin’ Up was the reserve world’s champion tonight with Emily Candelaria riding for Barbara Woods. The entry from Judd Stables made a great show tonight for sire Undulata’s Nutcracker and dam CH Sultry Heiress. Back in 2014 he was one of the celebrity winners of the Two-Year-Old Three-Gaited division. My Royale Prince and Emily Van Duren got one of the first extended cheers from the crowd for their third place finish. Bubble Bath and Grace McDonell were a good fourth for High Caliber Stables.
This Junior Exhibitor Three-Gaited Park division has had the highest barrier of entry of the last two seasons. It’s near impossible to crack the top prizes, and the other half of the reason why scored a second straight Junior Exhibitor Three-Gaited Park Section Two World’s Championship tonight. Skylar Rueff has been given an incredible opportunity with It’s Aerosmith, and she has taken full advantage. The gorgeous black gelding with the little white stripe strutted his way to the winner’s circle tonight in unanimous style for Betsy Webb Stables and owner Katy Rueff. By VHF The Licorice Drop Kid and out of Steal The Day, It’s Aerosmith lit the crowd up the second he stepped onto the green shavings. Cascade Stables had the reserve world’s champion in Super Cooper and Anne Pateman. An entry of Victoria McHenry, the product of Castle Bravo and Strapless made a superb show tonight in this exceptional division. This was Super Cooper’s best show yet with Anne. Scooter Scheurich, Avery Bul, and Barbe Smith were thrilled with their rider’s efforts here on Sunday night. Lexington grand champions Cloverleaf Freedom Writer and Faith Sturm fought hard in third, while Molly Codeanne made the good ride for fourth aboard I’m A Skywatcher for William Woods University.
Alex Rudder continued her run with Soquili’s Curious George. She was the 14-17 Three-Gaited Section Two World’s Champion, setting up a showdown with Reagan Campbell and Real Action for the tricolor round. Alex has never been beaten aboard Curious George, a son of Undulata’s Nutcracker and Callaway’s Baby Blue. Trained by Wingswept Farm, Curious George is the reigning World’s Champion of Champions in this division. The punched up black mare She’s Born To Sparkle earned the reserve world’s championship for the second year in a row with Alexandra Gendron. Reserve here for the third straight class, She’s Born To Sparkle is by He’s Born To Royalty and out of Callaway’s Sparkle. The Matt Shiflet Stables team sent these girls out of the ring with a big cheer. Jett Rink and Victoria Walz were up next in third for DeLovely, while CH Lulu Guiness and Frankie Sue Snider took fourth under the direction of Andre Fourie.
I’m not sure how many horses Mary Orr rides in a day, but she has ridden every step along with her riders today. She will be a tired young lady tonight, as she had to ride a few additional steps for a victory pass with CH Sunken Treasure and Corbin Bumgarner. The ownership team of Allen and McGee Bosworth has been a great one for High Caliber Stables, allowing up-and-coming youngsters their turn with this veteran chestnut gelding. He has taught countless kids what it means to ride a show horse. He took home the Junior Exhibitor Five-Gaited Pleasure Section Two World’s Championship tonight. Milan Kordestani is an impressive young man. He accepted the salute from the crowd as the reserve world’s champion with Supreme Kiss. Trained by Jennifer Dixon, who was riding every step right next to Mary Orr, Supreme Kiss is by Callaway’s Northern Kiss and out of Supreme’s Finest Jewel. Milan made one of his best shows tonight, tipping his hat to the crowd with the red ribbon. Undulata’s Sweet Sister and Madison Morgan were a good third, while CH Freaky Links and Abby Kastenholz took fourth back to Knollwood.
It’s fun to watch a ring full of good horses and good trainers going full tilt, but then add in the element of their kids giving color commentary, and it goes to another level. Chase Lee described his dad’s ride as, “Sick,” while Griffin Day conceded with a, “I think your dad might have it.” It was Tre Lee and Bret Day taking the top prizes in the ASR Four-Year-Old Five-Gaited Sweepstakes. The celebrated Vegas Moon was the unanimous winner for Golden Creek Farms. This spectacular bay mare is special to Prospect Lane, as they were the breeders of the daughter of Northern Vegas and Winsdown It’s About Time. Bret Day debuted with HS I’m A Dreamer to take the reserve world’s championship. The new entry of Chestnut Dream LLC is being groomed for Rose Marie Wheeler. This one is by Undulata’s Nutcracker and out of I Am The Dream, the full sister to A Daydream Believer (BHF). Bret has a look that he likes in a horse, and this one fits that mold for sure, carrying himself in high style, with plenty of motor at the rack. Jesse West and The DaVinci Treasure were the next ones called out in third for Paula Schmidt and Kathy Capsuto Walker. Star Salesman and Andre van Schalkwyk took the white ribbon for fourth.
