Designed was pleased with the results of the first class of the day, the first split of Show Pleasure Driving. He sired the top two, beginning with World’s Champion CH Irresistible Design. Elizabeth James Lipscomb has shown this daughter of Designed and I’m Irresistible Too for five seasons now. They have finished outside the top two just once. That is a remarkable level of consistency, and add to that that the reserve prizes come quite rarely as well! They left the ring last today, as is their custom for the Hollow Haven team. This was the third straight Louisville win for the reigning World’s Champion of Champions. The Reserve World’s Champion is out of a great pleasure mare, CH Kiss For Luck. Who was the Reserve World’s Champion. Note the punctuation mark. It’s a period not a question mark, as “Who” is this horse’s registered name. It could lead to a real Abbott and Costello situation, but instead we will focus on another great drive for Cathy Rogers Holmes. This team took the Show Pleasure Driving Championship at Blue Ridge Classic in a big and competitive group. They are trained by Cater Stables. Bewitching Lad and Kathy Capsuto Walker continued a good week for Escalade Stables in third. Front Row Frankie and Julie Greenbank took the fourth place prize for Cedarwood Farm.
The Junior Hackney Pony World’s Champion of Champions a year ago as a three-year-old, Heartland Infinity returned to the top for the third straight time at Louisville, winning the Four-Year-Old Hackney Pony World’s Championship. Maureen Campbell continued the undefeated career of this cross of Heartland Rain And Fire and Heartland Laureate for owner Sandra Surber. Another good young pony by World’s Grand Champion Dun-Haven Phenomenal, the home bred Crystal Creek’s Dr. Hill was the Reserve World’s Champion for the second year in a row. Eduardo Lopez was at the lines again for Carl and Kathryn Nichols. Dr. Hill is out of Twin Oak Ruffian, by Canterbury Comet.
Drew Taylor Hewitt has spent more time in the saddle than most anybody. Her skills as a jockey have been covered over and over again for good reason. She keeps winning and winning! She did it again today with the Five-Gaited Show Pleasure Section One World’s Championship aboard So Swank. Trained by Clark Clouse, So Swank is owned by DTH Saddlebreds. Here’s another by Designed, this one out of Swak, by Callaway’s Blue Norther. This horse had to run the qualifying race, getting it all done in just three weeks! He went from Shelby County Fair to Chattanooga/Cleveland Charity, Lawrenceburg, and then Woodford County. That epic schedule paid off with a Louisville blue today. The longtime queen of the gaited pleasure qualifiers here at Louisville, Jennie Turner Garlington was a Reserve World’s Champion in this class for the first time ever. A World’s Champion in 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2014 with Champagne Treat and then Pass With Care, Jennie always is a big factor in this one for Kalarama. It was Pass With Care today for the red ribbon in second. He is by Desert’s Supreme Memories and out of Kalarama’s My Heart. Tasha Sandler Dunlop made her return to the green shavings in third aboard The Cat Walk for Joanne Weiner. Soquili’s Gone With The Wind and Christine Broder were fourth for Split Decision LLC.
Majestic Oaks had the top two in the first split of Hackney Pleasure Driving. Beautiful Lady got the top call with Linda Fischer filling in for Sandra Surber. Linda is getting to have all the fun this week, as Sandra’s health continues to improve. She is aiming for a Kansas City return, and the whole horse show community wishes her well. She is a one of a kind, special sort of lady, and so is her latest World’s Champion pony! This was a Louisville debut in this division for the daughter of Dun-Haven Regal Attraction and a Canterbury Conqueror mare, another Canterbury stallion producing good broodmares. Kay Marschel made a good drive with I Am Legend, scoring the Reserve World’s Championship. Midwest Charity’s Hackney Pleasure Driving Champion is by Mastercraft and out of a Dun-Haven Regal Attraction mare. Mary Gise and Exotica were up next in third, with CH Mastercraft’s Namesake LF and Sharla Deuschle in fourth.
The combination of Andy Freseth and Amanda Dellinger continued to be a successful one today in a rockin’ Three-Gaited Park Stallion/Gelding World’s Championship. Kalarama’s Out Of The Ordinary never dropped an ear as he took the blue back to Hollow Haven. By Harlem Globetrotter and out of Lady Whitney, the dam of the black harness mare, Kalarama’s New York Lady, Kalarama’s Out Of The Ordinary has yet to be beaten in this division. He just keeps winning from River Ridge to UPHA Chapter 5, Midwest Charity, and Oshkosh. A park horse superstar the past four years for High Caliber Stables, CH Let’s Talk made his first Louisville show with Mary Marcum Orr, scoring the Reserve World’s Championship for Pair of Jacks Stables. A winner at Blue Ridge last month, Let’s Talk is three times a World’s Champion and three times a Reserve World’s Champion. He is by Sir William Robert and out of Soft Spoken. Todd Miles was up next with a good ride aboard The King’s Watchman for Alexandra Frangiosa. CH Doctor Zhivago and Dena Lopez made their Louisville return together for fourth for Alyssa Lopez Northcutt.
Marty Schaffel had the same level of excitement with his win today as Debbie Foley did with her roadster win last night. He was shaking his head and enjoying the moment all the way down victory lane at the lines of IAmNotACow. Trained by David Chretien, the Amateur Roadster to Bike World’s Champion sent the Five Gait Stables crowd into a tizzy, especially daughter Zoe Schaffel, who was proud as could be of her dad. It’s great to see when the parents get involved in the showing aspect of the business, and even more fun when they have this level of success. This is the fifth year in a row for IAmNotACow to take a Louisville victory pass. James Miller and Ring Of Fire made their Louisville debut to claim the Reserve World’s Championship for Hillcroft Farm and Kalarama. The 2012 USTA Roadster Classic World’s Champion has wins at Gasparilla, Asheville, Devon, and Shelbyville already this year.
What a nice group it was in the second section of Five-Gaited Show Pleasure. The top five finishers in this one all carry their Saddlebred Record Champion “CH” designation. Laura Elliott continued her strong week, taking a unanimous victory pass on her grand gelding, CH Break On Through. This was the eighth Louisville win for this team, the reigning Five-Gaited Show Pleasure World’s Champion of Champions. Steve and Tiffany Wheeler train the son of Classic Caper and Positively Peggy for Stockings N Stripes LLC. The 2010 and 2013 World’s Champion of Champions in this division, CH Take A Guess was the Reserve World’s Champion today for Michelle Krentz Partridge and owner Mary Krentz. By CF First Night Out and out of Most Fair, Take A Guess seems to get better with age for trainer Bret Day, who rode Mary’s former horse, Break On Through, to the Junior Five-Gaited Reserve World’s Champion of Champions title in 2009. CH Callaway’s Born For This and Janet Sterba used their lessons from Smith Lilly to take third in this good group, while CH What’s The Whoopla and Camille Cowart were fourth. CH One More Kiss and Britt Frome rounded out the “CH” horses in fifth.
It was another unanimous winner in the Four-Year-Old Harness Pony class. Heartland Copper Illusion and owner Toni Nastali made a picturesque show today for another Majestic Oaks blue. Last year’s Three-Year-Old Harness Pony World’s Champion was the Four-Year-Old World’s Champion today. By Heartland Head Of The Class, Copper Illusion is out of a Heartland Equality mare, hence the coppery color. Heartland Sing My Song is another top entry from Mary Gise and the Hollow Haven team. Andy Freseth has driven the daughter of Heartland Stylish Stepper and Heartland Joyful Song for her entire career. She was the Reserve World’s Champion today with a nice sendoff from the crowd. Mississippi Queen and Holli Hayes were third for Charlotte Wrather, followed by Crystal Creek’s Powerstroke and Eduardo Lopez for Carl and Kathryn Nichols.
Why not make it a cool dozen World’s Championships for Callaway’s Winning Number? All 12 have come under the Ever Glades banner with various Rowland grandchildren aboard. This family horse is trained by Missy Hughes Smith for the Ever Glades team. Marjorie Townsend was the first of her family to show Winning Number on the green shavings, but she was the only one to have not taken a victory pass here with him… until today. Now, she can lord over her cousins that she is the only one to have ever taken an Adult Country Pleasure World’s Championship with the superstar son of CH Callaway’s Born To Win and Abacus Claudia. She was the winner today in Section One with just a lovely performance with one of the grandest horses to ever grace the show ring. The curvy bay CH Reedann’s Rare Mystery stepped up to the Reserve World’s Championship for Juliette Dell and 6D Ranch. Trained by Todd Miles, Rare Mystery is by The Mystery Writer and out of a Rare Treasure mare. Juliette has a win at every show she has been to in this her first year out of junior exhibitor. She has won at Pro-Am, Asheville, and Lexington already this year. Ashlee Wheaton is also in her first amateur season. She and CH Extremely Fortunut finished third, with CH Callaway’s Summer Solstice and Carissa Marshall fourth for Tannehill Farms. The “CH’s” ran to fifth in this class as well, with CH It’s Good Karma fifth with Bonnie Lee riding for Saddlewood Farm Ltd.
I’m A Holiday took on the four-year-olds as a three-year-old last year, coming away as a two time Reserve World’s Champion. Up against his own age group this time, the son of Callaway’s Home For The Holidays and Taming Ingrid was a World’s Champion in the Junior Three-Gaited Park division. Owned by Barbara Goodman Manilow, the long-necked chestnut was ridden to the blue by Kenny Smith. Another three-year-old showing against the older horses, Crackin’ Up was the Reserve World’s Champion with Tre Lee. Owned by Elisabeth Goth, this one was a two-year-old star last year, winning a split of Two-Year-Old Three-Gaited. Crackin’ Up is by Undulata’s Nutcracker and out of World’s Champion Sultry Heiress. Jannie Giles had the sporty Double Dog Dare up for third for Nancy Lassiter. Stormy Lady and Jim Lowry took the white ribbon for Cross Timbers Saddlebreds.
Bvlgari has three Reserve World’s Championship wins over the last two years. The reigning Reserve World’s Champion of Champions earned a Louisville round of honor today with owner Kay Marschel. Kay made another strong drive today for the Majestic Oaks team, earning another Louisville blue. Bvlgari is by Mr. Hawkeye and out of Cherry’s Dream Motion. This team swept the division at Asheville in their only other appearance of the year. From Rodney Hicks Stables, CB Party Girl was the Reserve World’s Champion for an excited Maureen Quackenbush. The Hackney Pleasure Driving Champion at Devon this year and the Royal Winter Fair last year, Party Girl is by The Extremist and out of Prim & Proper. Major Impact was up next for third with Beth Jones, while Crystal Creek’s New Generation continued Sherry Frankel’s good week in fourth for SGF Winning Ways Farm.
Few people were happier than Bit Hutcheson when Graceful Surprise topped the Show Pleasure Driving Section Two group. The breeder of the beautiful bay mare was all smiles, but owner and exhibitor Priscilla Marconi was even more pleased. Directed by Jim Cherry, Graceful Surprise scored a blue in this division to make it two years in a row for Priscilla to win one of these splits. Last year, she did it with Spread The Word, a unanimous winner under saddle yesterday with Amanda Murchison. By Harlem’s Friendly Conversation and out of With Grace, Graceful Surprise is unbeaten in her six classes in her young career. A World’s Champion in harness as a three-year-old, Emmy Night was the Reserve World’s Champion in this one for Brenda Pulis. By CF First Night Out, Emmy Night is out of a Mountain Highland Memories mare. These two were champions at Raleigh Spring Premier, J.D. Massey, and Asheville this year. Spider Beside Her and Linda Richmond were third for Rockaway Show Horses. My Time To Dream and Tina Griesseier were fourth for Bettina and Walter Griesseier.
It’s been two years since Blushing Bull has finished outside of the top two, and that was just three times that he has taken the red prize in that stretch. Trained by Fay and Jim Lowry, the chiseled bay gelding was shown once again by Lindsay Sowell. This was the third straight win on the green shavings for the reigning World’s Champion of Champions. He is also the two-time defending Shatner Western Pleasure Finals Champion. Luanne Kilday Malone and her longtime partner O Ain’t I Somethin’ earned a second Reserve World’s Championship together. They were reserve in the first ever western class in Freedom Hall back in 2007 as well. Trained by Heath Hughes, they were back at it again in a huge field of 24. Smoke’s Zoom Zoom and Caroline Rainbolt Forbes finished third for Rainbow Princess Farms and trainer Kelly Kraegel. CH Star Spangled Steel and Tabitha Zimmerman were an excited fourth for Fritz Zimmerman and Show Fizz Farm.
World’s Champions in the Ladies Amateur Roadster to Bike the last two years, Nothing Else Matters and Judy McNeish were winners in a new division this year, Ladies Roadster to Bike. This was one of the best drives of the year for the Raymond Shively-trained duo. The red and black silks look quite familiar going down Louisville’s victory lane. Tammy Devore got to make the drive with Cookie Monster today, long the partner of Mark Catron. This was the Roadster to Wagon World’s Champion of Champions in 2013 and has been several times a winner at the exceptionally competitive Royal Winter Fair. Fireball and Megan Thibo rounded out the top three for Fritz Zimmerman.
Heartland Head Of The Class had a good day in the Three-Year-Old Harness Pony World’s Championship, siring the top two. Heartland Dixie Dancer was the winner here with Darrel Kolkman driving for Mr. and Mrs. Darrel Kolkman and Heartland Hackney Farm. It’s been rare in recent years for Darrel to get to show a pony here anymore, as his is one of the go-to places to shop for a top youngster. This one is out of Heartland Dixie, by Heartland Equality. Heartland Pure Dynamite and Juan Rios were the Reserve World’s Champions for Charlotte Wrather. This one is out of the Sky King daughter, Heartland Victorious. Rich Campbell told Juan, “Good job!” as they left the ring with the reserve win. Cherish The Moment and Doc Raun drove to third for Golden Enterprises.
It was a bit of a change to see Mary Gaylord McClean up on a pleasure horse again! She got the catch ride duties on Ginger Magnolia today to win the second split of Adult Country Pleasure for Carol Hillenbrand. Steve and Tiffany Wheeler continued a good day with another unanimous winner. Just a five-year-old, Ginger Magnolia was the Junior Park Pleasure World’s Champion last year with Steve. She is by Bobese and out of Ginger Blossom, by CF First Night Out. Mary is no stranger to these big pleasure classes. Think back to circa 1991 and Show Pleasure World’s Champion of Champions Texas Fiesta! CH Fine By Me always finds the prizes in Freedom Hall. He is consistent all the way around the ring for Alicia Sacotte, getting a good spot on all three cards. Trained by Lance Hayes, Fine By Me earned his first world title today as the Reserve World’s Champion. By Hide-A-Way’s Stand By Me, the bay gelding is out of Showtime’s So Fine. Reedann’s What’s My Line and Melissa Madison finished third from High Spirits Farm, while Apparent To Me Only was fourth for Michelle Krentz Partridge and owner Haley Kesner.
The Reserve World’s Champion in Saturday night’s ASR Kentucky Yearling Futurity, Awesome At This lived up to his name as the Yearling Breeder’s Open World’s Champion. Steve Gassen teamed up with Ramon Gomez today to lead the fine and animated son of At Night and Desert’s Awesome Lover to the blue ribbon for Blythewood Farms. Awesome Lover is by Desert’s Supreme Awesome, a son of Desert’s Supreme Admiral and Gorgeous Memories. There are two Castleton’s in the ASHA database. The first one was born in 1901 and is registration number 1614. That one doesn’t qualify for this class. The other is by HS Castle Vision and out of Princess Mara. This pedigree sounds like it should be pretty nice. Delve a little deeper and it gets even better for Rose Arbor Farm. Castle Vision is by Castle Bravo and out of the incomparable A Daydream Believer (BHF). Princess Mara is a full sister to Sir William Robert. Gerhardt Roos showed the impeccably bred colt to the Reserve World’s Championship. Moon Dog MHF and Mark Bodnar finished third for Merriehill Farm, while Talking Loud and Grant Shiflet were fourth for Harrison and Beverly Shiflet.
Prime Time’s Choice LF is one of those rare road ponies that can rock way back in the bridle but still step strong down the rail. Tom Lowry got to make the drive down victory lane in the Four-Year-Old Road Pony World’s Championship for Golden Creek Farms. Prime Time’s Choice is by Romeo’s Prime Time LF and out of Regal’s Chloe LF, by Dun-Haven Regal Attraction, a name that appears many a time on road pony pedigrees. Game and Allie Wellington Nunley were up for the reserve win for Jack Tatum III. Holli Hayes made the drive for the Majestic Oaks team last year for a matching Reserve World’s Championship in the three-year-old ranks. Game is by Dun-Haven Truly Awesome and out of Kilbro’s Grandemeanor. Heartland Midnight Magic took Darrel Kolkman to third for Heartland Hackney Farm.
Amateur Roadster to Bike World’s Champion of Champions in 2013, Thunderbolt made a Louisville debut in a new division. He and Stevie Bagdasarian were the Amateur Roadster Under Saddle World’s Champions for Shane Mullens and Diamond View Farm. This was the second show ever in this division for the now seven time World’s Champion. The farewell tour continued for Where Are We Now and Dr. Brian Garrett. One of the greats of this division’s history, Where Are We Now was the Reserve World’s Champion today. He and Brian have been winners here eight times in their storied career together. Warhorse and Shane Sallee came next in third for Raymond Shively. Code Blue and Dr. Holly Ackerman rounded out the top four in this good-sized group.
Far Away Thomas Jefferson was the pick in the Weanling Breeder’s Open. Andre van Schalkwyk made the winning lead for Silver Mane Media Inc. Melinda Moore and Ricky Cook are the partners listed as the original owners of this one, by Silver Mane’s stallion, Tomcat (SA), and out of a full sister to World’s Champion With Style And Grace. This chestnut colt stood and craned his impeccable neck to the delight of the crowd. Dippity Boo was the Reserve World’s Champion with Darrell Case. Owned by Willowbank and Cherokee Saddlebreds, Dippity Boo is by Undulata’s Nutcracker and out of Simply Thunderful. This Attache’s Thunderbolt daughter has also produced World’s Champion It’s Sam I Am and the top walk-trot horse, Sirtainly Stylish. Carl’s Girl Gone Wild was third here for Gerhardt Roos and Singing Hills Stables for their stallion, Carl Lynn.
