Roanoke Valley Horse Show Cancelled

The 2015 Roanoke Valley Horse Show has been cancelled as announced by Donnis Honeywell, President of the Roanoke Valley Horsemen's Association. The 44th annual show had been scheduled for June 15-20, 2015.  It was one of the few remaining multi-breed horse shows that included Saddlebreds, Hackneys and Hunter Jumpers.  In the past the show was known to include a huge crowd of spectators for the event.

The RVHA board cancelled the show after being confronted with an expanding list of sponsors who had abandoned the show, The show had experienced declining numbers of exhibitors. As recently as 2007, the show has sold more than 1000 stalls and that reduced to 430 in 2014.  "One expense that had risen ‘astronomoically’ was the fee owed to the United States Equestrian Federation, the governing body for the horse show," as quoted by the Roanoke Times.

Thank you to those of you have supported the Roanoke Valley Horse Show in the past, present, and the future.

(Editor’s Note: the USEF fee that grew astronomically as quoted by the Roanoke Times refers to a USEF rule that requires hunter/jumper shows of certain levels to have an electronic scoreboard and timers.)
