Saddlebred Friends of Spindletop Kick-Off Big Success

LEXINGTON, KY. - The “Saddlebred Friends of Spindletop” campaign officially kicked off Saturday, April 18, 2015, at Spindletop Hall, the former home of and farm of Pansy Yount renowned Saddlebred owner and breeder.

The evening event was attended by many Saddlebred enthusiasts to recognize the historical relationship between the Saddlebred horse breed and Spindletop Farm founder Pansy Yount who moved her Saddlebred operation from Beaumont, TX, to the Bluegrass State in 1937. Over time, Yount’s farm produced some of the top Saddlebred horses in the industry.

“Many of the leading Saddlebreds horses today have lineage that can be traced back to a Spindletop Farm horse. We are indeed grateful for Pansy’s impact upon the quality of Saddlebreds that compete today,” explained Misdee Wrigley Miller, Chair of the kickoff event. She and husband James Miller concluded the evening by announcing a $100,000 goal for the Saddlebred Friends of Spindletop efforts.
The Millers set the pace for the campaign by also announcing a personal match to all gifts up to a total of $50,000.

“We hope that the Saddlebred community will join us in contributing to sustain the future years of this Kentucky landmark that Pansy built over 80 years ago,” said Miller.

“The Millers’ commitment to the success of the Saddlebred Friends campaign will go a long way towards reaching their goal. Their leadership in helping preserve Pansy’s beloved home and farm is deeply appreciated,” said Spindletop General Manager Gerald Marvel.

The funds raised through the Saddlebred Friends campaign will be used to support the “Rebuild History” campaign currently taking place at Spindletop Hall. The “Rebuild History” campaign was launched in 2012 to raise $800,000 to repair and renovate the 80-year mansion and amenities. Projects include replacing the original family pool that was built in 1937. The pool was closed in summer 2014 because of age and outdated mechanicals. Other critical needs include a kitchen renovation and tennis courts repair.

“There are still more repairs and renovations on our list. The bathhouses are in dire need of renovation. The landscaping is also very dated and overgrown. We want to sustain Pansy Yount’s Spindletop Hall for many more years to come. And the Saddlebred Friends of Spindletop will help us to achieve that goal,” explained Marvel. “I believe that Pansy Yount is smiling down on us tonight,” added Marvel.

Donations to the Saddlebred Friends of Spindletop may be sent to “The Rebuild History” campaign, 3414 Iron Works Pike, Lexington, KY 40511, with a notation of “Saddlebred” for the Millers’ match. Credit Card contributions may be made on the Spindletop Hall website www.spindletophall.org by clicking on the “Rebuild History” icon. For more information contact [email protected].
