Devon Horse Show and Country Fair Pledges $2M to Bryn Mawr Hospital

DEVON, PA - On Friday evening, December 5, 2014, the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair Board of Directors and members of the Bryn Mawr Hospital community gathered at a reception held at the hospital where Devon presented their annual donation to Bryn Mawr Hospital president, Andrea Gilbert.

2014 Devon Country Fair Co-Chairmen, Helen Corkhill and Gail McCarthy, and Devon Horse Show President, Sarah Coxe Lange, presented a check for $425,000.  This is the first installment of a $2M, five year pledge in support of the hospital's modernization project, which will include a new intensive care unit to be named in honor of the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair.

On December 4, 2014, Main Line Health's Board of Trustees approved a $200 million investment in Bryn Mawr Hospital. They are currently in the planning and township approval phase of the project with an anticipated groundbreaking date in the summer of 2016. A treasured community teaching hospital for more than 120 years, the next iteration of Bryn Mawr Hospital envisions a contemporary physical space that matches the patient centered, quality-driven care that remains core to the Main Line Health mission.

In her remarks, Gilbert noted, "Bryn Mawr Hospital and the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair have both been vital institutions in our community since 1893 and 1896 respectively. We have enjoyed a very special relationship with Devon and been their sole beneficiary for almost one hundred years.  We are delighted that our largest, and longest standing benefactor is among the first to show their support for what is a very historical initiative for Bryn Mawr Hospital."

In presenting the check, Corkhill said, "It is truly our privilege to make this gift to the hospital on behalf of the thousands of Devon Country Fair volunteers who work tirelessly every year to make Devon a success for the benefit of Bryn Mawr Hospital. We are excited to be part of the hospital's next chapter and look forward to watching it come to fruition."

Virtually every unit and department in the hospital has been strengthened by Devon's gifts over the years. Recent examples include the Neuro-Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Barbara Brodsky

Comprehensive Breast Center, Emergency Department, Inpatient Pediatric Unit, Neonatal ICU, Labor and Delivery Unit and the Wound Healing Center. For more information about Bryn Mawr Hospital, visit www.brynmawrhospital.org.

The Devon Horse Show and Country Fair was established in 1896 as a one day horse show. It has grown to become and eleven day event that is the oldest and largest, outdoor, multi-breed horse show in the country. The Country Fair, managed and staffed entirely by volunteers, offers shopping dining, entertainment and family fun.  The 2015 show dates are May 21 - 31.
