Complete biographies for each candidate are available for review at the online site. Online voting will be open until MONDAY, DECEMBER 1, 2014

Christy Parker – Brunswick, GA

Christy Parker has been involved as an American Saddlebred owner, breeder and exhibitor for over 30 years, the last 10 of which have been as a professional trainer/instructor and judge.  She currently runs a riding lesson program with over 40 students each week, and she hosts summer camps that annually introduce 45 new riders to American Saddlebreds.  She is a member of the ASHA Charter Club and Riding Lesson Council, and has served as a board member of the ProAm Benefit Horse Show, the ASHAG Horse Show, and Co-Chair of UPHA Chapter 17, as well as the ASHAG and SESHA Youth Committees.  She is a member of UPHA, AHHS, and RHPA.

Christy is a graduate of Valdosta State University, and holds degrees in Psychology and Education.  She previously worked as a Middle Grades teacher and as a personal banker for SunTrust Bank.  She has been the ASHAG High Point Trainer for six years, and is the recipient of the UPHA Chapter 17 National Horse Person of the Year in 2009, as well as the USEF Heroes for Horses National Award winner in 2007.  Christy created the annual UPHA Chapter 17 Horsemanship Challenge program; she has a high level of expertise in financial, organization and communication skills.

If elected to the ASHA Board, Christy would be particularly interested in breed promotion, renewing past member interest, fundraising, innovative and youth programs, and the ASHA Riding Lesson Council.  Christy’s vision for the ASHA is to develop member-centered programs to maintain interest and excitement in the breed, and to encourage breed promotion via exposure, lesson programs, and word of mouth.  She believes the ASHA should provide support and education for both owners and professionals, and promote unity and enthusiasm.
