Louisville - Monday Daytime

It was a unanimous win in the first split of Country Pleasure Driving to start the day for the great CH Callaway’s Cumulus. Trained by Amanda Simpson for his entire show career, the grand gelding has been a stalwart of this division for many years with owner Susan Aschenbrenner. Susan was lovely in rose pink to win for the ninth time in nine trips to the ring this year. The four-time defending National Champion has won his qualifier here the last two times he hit the ring. Another Champion from the Callaway Hills breeding program, CH Callaway’s Halley’s Comet was the Reserve World’s Champion here with Christine Broder. Directed by Hoppy Bennett, this team earned two blue ribbons here a year ago as the Country Pleasure Driving World’s Champion of Champions. They were also formerly Show Pleasure Driving World’s Champion of Champions in their tremendous career, teamed since 2008. Third in this good split went to CH Carissimo with Dr. Steve Gilman driving for Judd Stables. Tornaado’s Storm Warnings was fourth for Janet Kellett and Alde-Mar Farms.

Sydney Budzinski was the well-received winner of the 15-Year-Old Equitation World’s Championship with Royal Tryst. Carol Matton made the run to the winner’s circle to greet the winning team. Sydney has had great success at Louisville before, winning the Reserve World’s Championship as a 14-year-old and the World’s Championship as a 12-year-old. A product of the prolific Knollwood Farms riding academy, she is another top young rider turned out by longtime academy director Nancy Turner. This was a reversal of the placings from last year, as Eleanor Rainbolt Forbes was the Reserve World’s Champion this time out, having won here last year. Teamed this year with CH-EQ Chanti’s Prayer, she also won her qualifier at Lexington. She was also the World’s Champion of her age group as a 13-year-old. DeLovely trains this one. Audrey Crites was in from Iowa for a great third-place ride, with Clara McCool fourth for Cater Stables.

Trained by Abel Vega, Mr. Naples was a morning winner for the Golden Creek Farms. He topped the Amateur Gentlemen’s Harness Pony class with Jeff McClean at the lines. The gorgeous bay pony was working in an open, lofty style for the win. He is no stranger to this winner’s circle, having won the Junior Harness Pony World’s Championship and the Four-Year-Old World’s Championship as well. Dr. Chip Pugh and Michigan’s Striking Image took the same prize for the second year in a row, as they were Reserve World’s Champions here. Bret Day directs this son of Kilbro’s Image and Thunder Struck.

From Mr. Naples to a Naples resident, Carol Hillenbrand and Mighty Thor ran their Louisville winning streak to three, taking the first split of Adult Show Pleasure under the direction of Steve and Tiffany Wheeler. Also the National Champions a year ago, these two made a wide-open performance today to romp to the two blue ribbons. Carol has long been a fixture of this division, with countless world titles to her credit. Mighty Thor is by Tornaado and out of Heir’s Folly. Ali Judah can work this ring like few others can. She put that skill set on display today as the Reserve World’s Champion with Iza Diva. Champions at J.D. Massey earlier this year, Iza Diva is just four this year. She is out of I’m A Diva Too, a full sister to the grand CH Riva Diva, winner of the 14-17 Show Pleasure World’s Championship here in 2005 with Ali aboard. CH Justa Rascal made his pleasure debut on the green shavings, as Camille Cowart took the yellow ribbon back to West Wind with her longtime partner. Undulata’s Spider Man and Amy Haller delighted trainer Lauren Burin in fourth. Karen Lachman looked as pleased as anybody in the ring with her eighth place prize aboard CH Hubris. She highlighted the joy of a good ride and the honor of receiving any prize in this hallowed hall.

Juliette Dell was the unanimous winner in the 17-Year-Old Equitation class, joined by Sarah Lawson in the winner’s circle representing DeLovely. This was Juliette’s first equitation World’s Championship, riding CH-EQ Imagine My Surprise down victory lane with Lillian Shively in tow. They were reserve champions at Lexington Junior League this year. Juliette is going strong in her final junior campaign, collecting top prizes everywhere she has shown. Foster Roberts threw his hat in the ring in his final year as a junior exhibitor and came out as the Reserve World’s Champion. This was Foster’s first time showing equitation since 2010, when he showed once… Before that, it was walk-and-trot! Young Foster has enjoyed his success and World’s Championship rides in the performance ranks, showing his overall horsemanship today in second.

With all of the different color combinations and different markings that Saddlebreds can have the first two section winners of the Adult Show Pleasure division are almost identically colored and marked! CH Perfect Vengeance and Tara Grom made a show of similar style to Carol Hillenbrand and Mighty Thor, wide open and with a distinct look-at-me attitude. Tara has become a star of the amateur division and with good reason. She is cool as ice on the biggest stage, never missing a beat, claiming yet another World’s Championship for the DeLovely banner. Deborah Orr had Warranty Connection all tucked up and marching for James Orr. Another from their breeding program, Warranty Connection is by Designed and out of Heir’s Perfect Rose WRF. This was just the third show for Deborah and this five-year-old gelding. Brittany McGinnis looked pleased with her top three finish with longtime teammate CH Stravinsky in their Louisville pleasure debut. Another owner/breeder, Bridget McNeese was a good fourth with CH Kent Brockman for Catherine Carter McNeese.

The Three-Year-Old Road Pony Reserve World’s Champion just last year, Palisades Ladyhawke jumped up a notch to take top honors with Allie Wellington Nunley in the Four-Year-Old Road Pony class this time around. Trained by Majestic Oaks and bred by Sandra Surber, Ladyhawke was the unanimous winner here today with an elated Allie at the lines. They are now five for five in this four-year-old campaign. The entry of All Well Farm is by Heartland Blackhawk and out of What Luck. Lisa Strickland earned a Reserve World’s Championship for Dr. Mary Ling. She drove Heartland Steppin’ Out to the red prize today. By Heartland Head Of The Class and out of Heartland Special Ways, Steppin’ Out did just that to claim  reserve honors.

What is there to say about CH Sprinkles that hasn’t been said 300 times in 300 different ways? Most people don’t point out that her first trip into this ring was in 1999, when Michele Macfarlane drove her to the Amateur Three-Year-Old Pleasure Driving Futurity Reserve World’s Championship. Most people newer to the business might not even know that that used to exist! Since then, it has been a story told over and over again, 15 times coming into the week, with a 16th added this morning as the unanimous Five-Gaited Pony World’s Champion with Eleanor Rainbolt Forbes up for the Rainbow Princess Farms. Charles Gassen was flying down the rail with Little Lord Huntly, working hard and doing well to keep up with all the girls. Charles knows how to keep up with the ladies, as he is always surrounded by a throng of tween admirers. He and Little Lord Huntly were also Reserve World’s Champions in this 17-and-Under class a year ago, having won the final 13-and-Under World’s Championship in 2012. Camelot’s Riding Out The Storm finished third with Mary Lynes Sutton up for Susie Sutton.

Drew Taylor Hewitt continued her tremendous run with CH Fort Chiswell’s Prince Charming, winning the third and final section of Adult Show Pleasure. Clark Clouse and John Whalen made the run to the winner’s circle here to greet the winner. The last time Prince Charming hit the ring, he outlasted a huge group and a workout to win the championship at Lexington. This was his second World’s Championship, having won the 2011 Three-Gaited Park Stallion/Gelding World’s Championship. Another big and bold gelding, Kalarama’s Provenance gave Ashley Baird a thrill as the Reserve World’s Champion for MBA Equestrians. Just a five-year-old, Provenance is by Charmed And Bewitched and out of Care Package, by CH Caramac. This team is fresh off a championship performance at ASAW Summerfun. They are directed by Moctezuma Stables. Taylor Newton is another of the recently out of junior exhibitor riders that made up this top three. She took third with Standing Guard for Steve and Pam Binnie. Callaway’s Law And Order and Sandra Dyer were fourth from Strickland Stables.

The Senior Equitation Champion at Lexington the last two years, Aleia Brown claimed her first cantering World’s Championship this morning aboard Madeira’s Fame in the 16-Year-Old Equitation class. Twice a World’s Champion in walk-and-trot and four times a Reserve World’s Champion in that division, Aleia has weathered an absolutely loaded age group as she has come up through the years, earning an age group Reserve World’s Championship the past two years. She took the top prize today for the Cape Cod banner with a spectacular rail work. Courtney McGinnis and CH-EQ Kiss Of The Zodiac were up for the Reserve World’s Championship for DeLovely. Reserve National Champion in both the NHS Good Hands Finals and the UPHA Senior Challenge Cup Finals last year, Courtney has won her age group here the last four years. She was also an age group winner in 2007 and 2008, when that age group was 10-and-under. Caroline Cherry was a strong third, with Cameron Kay fourth, both trained by DeLovely.

The ASR Four-Year-Old Park Pleasure Sweepstakes was next up with Neil Visser winning aboard Tango’s Private Matter for Diane Sembler Kamins. Matt Shiflet brought this horse out this spring, with Neil picking him out after JD Massey. He is by Matthew’s stallion, Tango’s Parting Kiss and out of CF Deny Me Not, by CF First Night Out. Grant Shiflet showed this horse as a yearling, taking the Yearling Breeders Open Reserve World’s Championship. Kalarama’s Prospero was a Reserve World’s Champion in a big money class for the second year in a row. Last year’s ASR Three-Year-Old Park Pleasure National Futurity Reserve World’s Champion was reserve here today, once again with Danny Lockhart up for David Rudder. This one is by Calif First Night Out and out of Miss Cosmopolitan, by Catalyst. Danny got a good ovation from the crowd in second. Chris Reiser had a good go in third aboard Nutta You Business for Carolyn Stuart, with MBA’s Nuttin’ But Blue fourth with Chuck Herbert for MBA Equestrians.

CH Sapphire On Ice scored the blue in section two of Country Pleasure Driving. Sally Grieme drove to this World’s Championship honor under the direction of Kim and Fran Crumpler. This is the first year in this division for the wonderful bay gelding. They were twice winners at Midwest Charity, then twice again just a few weeks ago at the Illinois State Fair. Lynda St. Andre and Attache’s Chocolate Thunder were the Reserve World’s Champions under the Luman Wadhams Stables banner. These two have been big winners all over the Northeast, taking a noteworthy sweep of the division at Syracuse International and the tricolor at Devon as well. Ask Me Again and Vicki Reed were up for third, followed by CH Heirreverent and Blair Townsend in fourth.

Two splits of Junior Exhibitor Five-Gaited Pleasure came next, with the sections running back to back. The top call in the first split was the property of McGee Bosworth, riding CH Sunken Treasure back to this winner’s circle once again. The World’s Champion of Champions in 2012 and a World’s Champion in 2011 as well, Sunken Treasure made a hinged up and charging performance to rock down victory lane for Pair of Jacks Stables and the High Caliber banner. Fort Chiswell’s The It Girl was a Reserve World’s Champion for the third time, taking this red prize with Caroline Rainbolt Forbes for Rainbow Princess Farms and the DeLovely team. Champions at both Blue Ridge and Indianapolis Charity, these two scored one of their best prizes yet with a great ride. CH A Dream In Color picked up the yellow prize in third with Alexandra Bowlen for Cater Stables, while fourth went to Stonecroft Rumor Has It and Jessica Cloud from Jack Magill Stables.

McGee Bosworth definitely ate her Wheaties this morning. Unless dad Allen has an ad campaign going for Cheerios or something, in which case we apologize profusely. Regardless, she was an out-and-out star in this Junior Exhibitor Five-Gaited Pleasure division, sweeping both splits, this one unanimously! This second victory pass came aboard CH I’m Something Wicked, their tenth of the year together. Champions at Asheville, JD Massey, Raleigh and Lexington, McGee and Wicked have been at the top of their game all year long for Pair of Jacks Stables. This does leave something to be desired in the way of qualifying for championship classes here, as, barring a catch rider for one of the horses, there will be a max of 15 in the championship rather than 16. Perhaps the ninth-place horse could be elevated into a qualifying position if one of the ribbon winners does not choose to show back? Food for thought for a future edition of our World’s Championship Horse Show. The Reserve World’s Championship here went back to Mercer Springs with Undulata’s Sweet Sister and Madison Morgan. These two were reserve champions at Blue Ridge earlier this year in their first show together. Macey Miles rode this horse to the tricolor at Midwest Charity. Sweet Sister is by Undulata’s Nutcracker and out of the great World’s Champion Jaunty Janette. Wrapped In Chocolate scored a good third with Zoe Schaffel aboard under the direction of David Chretien, while Lotta Bucks and Anna Leigh Amrein finished fourth for Angela and Marsha Mangine.

Sugarland romped to another World’s Championship for Majestic Oaks, winning the 50-52” Amateur Road Pony qualifier with Elisabeth Goth. This was the fourth win in as many tries in this class for Sugarland, having won it in 2010 and 2011 and now the last two years as well. This also marks 15 straight wins for the dynamic superstar. The defending National Champion and World’s Champion of Champions was primed and ready for a unanimous win today. Lexington’s amateur champion Heartland Dressed To Impress was the Reserve World’s Champion here with Mary Gaylord McClean driving for Golden Creek Farms. This is the first year for Dressed To Impress to show under the Golden Creek banner. She is by Heartland Code Of Honor and out of Heartland Morning Star. Two longtime stalwarts of the road pony ranks, Seamair Strutter and Sis O Six were third and fourth respectively with Chris Long Schubert and Louise Bennett at the lines.

Macey Miles took yet another World’s Championship round of honor in her “step-up” year, her first out of the 13-and-Under ranks. Now the 14-Year-Old Equitation World’s Champion for DeLovely, she continued her run of four straight age group wins. She was Top Ten in all three National Finals last year against the senior riders, having won the UPHA Junior Challenge Cup National Championship in 2012. Another UPHA Junior Challenge Cup National Champion, Molly Codeanne, was the Reserve World’s Champion for Cater Stables. Once again teamed with Zagnut, she won her National Championship last year at the Royal. Molly has made tricolor rides at Blue Ridge, Syracuse, and Bonnie Blue already this year. Faith Robbins earned the yellow ribbon in third, followed by Lauren Arquilla in fourth from Northern Tradition.

Just like that, Melinda Moore earned another World’s Championship as the Open Three-Gaited Park Mare winner with Just Like That. An entry of Melinda and Ricky Cook, Just Like That was the Amateur Three-Gaited Park Mare World’s Champion in 2012 and the Reserve World’s Champion in 2013. Melinda made a strong show today to capture her second win of the week. Scott Matton picked up a Reserve World’s Championship aboard Brookhill’s Passion Punch. Long a stalwart of this division, Passion Punch has an incredibly long neck that she can put in a spectacular place. She was the winner of this class in 2012. Passion Punch is by Attache’s Royal Assets and out of The Lady Pizazz BH. She is owned by Kerry Honkamp Richter. Tre Lee was up for third aboard Hydragia Blue for Creekridge LLC, with My Minuet and Luman Wadhams fourth for Morgan King.

John Wrather rather enjoys the Amateur Gentlemen’s Hackney Pony class, and why not? He’s won it now six of the last seven years and has been either first or second every year since 2007! Formerly teamed with Seamair Simply Awesome, he did his winning this time with CH Heartland Globe-Trotter, the reigning Hackney Pony World’s Grand Champion. Also the reigning Open National Champion, Globe-Trotter has now gone eight for eight with John at the lines for Charlotte Wrather and trainer Janet Crampton. Heartland Whirlwind was up for reserve honors. Jeff McClean drove to this prize for Kathy Buente. Jeff made this drive a year ago as well, earning the World’s Championship.

Driving the horse that was clearly named for him, Jimmy Robertson took the last pass in the Roadster to Bike Mare Stake with Hot Lips. The Reserve World’s Champion a year ago, Hot Lips scampered to the winner’s circle this time for owner /breeder Karen Raque. Steve Crabtree and Kitty Wells were the Reserve World’s Champions for the second time, having earned that prize in 2011 as well. Steve owns this one himself.

With total entries in the neighborhood of 20, the 13-and-Under Three-Gaited class was split, with Section One going back to Clouse Stables with Manipulating The Stars and Jozee Johnson. The de facto catch rider for Clark Clouse, Jozee has made good ride after good ride this year on whatever they throw her aboard. She made the winning effort here for Harold Denton Jr. Clark and assistant Drew Taylor Hewitt came busting through the gate all smiles when the beautiful black mare’s number was called. This team earned the reserve championship at Lexington earlier this year. A horse that lives in the top ribbons in this division, Buckles Boots N Spurs was the Reserve World’s Champion with Madeleine Wood. An entry of Three Sisters Stables, this chestnut gelding is directed by Randy Cates. They were reserve champions at Midwest Charity as well in their first full season together. Gypsy’s Cosmopolitan and Caitlin Bevins were third for Edward Leonard, with Ever Glade’s Summer Heir fourth with Harriet Townsend.

Section Two’s blue went back to Wingswept Farm with the popular pair of CH The Proof Is In The Heir and Alex Rudder. This kid can flat ride, and she showed it here today. Stephanie Sedlacko and Chris Brannan brought them down the ramp first, and they took it from there, putting on a great show. It was a fractious class to say the least, but they kept right on rolling down victory lane. Nissa Sultan made her Louisville debut a great one, taking the Reserve World’s Championship with Tia Margarita. An elated Lark Henry trains this team from Bobbin Hollow Equestrian Center for The Sultan Gallery LLC. Tia Margarita is by Blue O’Shea and out of Callaway’s Kismet. Nuttin’ To Gain and Blake Crim were a popular third, as Blake always is. They showed today for Yvonne Hines. Hillcroft Claret and Madeline Capodilupo were strong in fourth for trainer Colleen Fitzpatrick.

Candi Aversenti looked to the sky and trainer Denessa Harper put both fists in the air and did a little dance when Regal’s Promoter LF’s number was called out atop the 14-strong Amateur Road Pony 50”-and-Under class. The most excited person in the building may have been husband Ed Aversenti, as he filmed from the rail. This was the best show yet for the second-year duo. Promoter is by Dun-Haven Regal Attraction and out of Conqueror’s Starburst LF. Reserve honors went to the Majestic Oaks team of Sirfistication and Patrice Watson O’Brien. Amateur champions at Asheville this year, this team is also in its second year together, continuing to improve with every drive. Meredithe Steinhauer rode her high from last night into another good prize, third here with Dun-Haven Awesome Attraction. Hopkins and Toni Nastali kept it going for Majestic Oaks in fourth.

Nuttin’ But Style has fulfilled her destiny as a walk-trot pony, looking like she was pulled straight out of the specs as the epitome of the division. By Undulata’s Nutcracker and out of World’s Champion Three-Gaited Pony Heir Style, Nuttin’ But Style took Eleanor Rainbolt Forbes to a sweep of the saddle pony divisions today, winning the Three-Gaited Pony qualifier for Rainbow Princess Farms and DeLovely. Just a year ago, she earned a blue in the Ladies Three-Gaited 15.2-and-Under division. Sydney Dunaway and Faizah always find themselves high up in the prizes. They were Reserve World’s Champions here for Jim and Sara McDowell. They are fresh off a Three-Gaited Pony win at Shelbyville early this month. The great CH Manhattan’s Irish Cream rounded out the top three here with Alexis Landreth, with Thunder Gone Wild and Maelee Dudan fourth.

Danny Lockhart was the recipient of all three first place votes in the 17-horse Three-Gaited Park Stallion/Gelding class. He was aboard Balenciaga today for owner and breeder James Orr. Park champion at Asheville and Shelby County Fair this year, Balenciaga is by Designed and out of One Parting Kiss, a second product of the Orr breeding program by Designed to win today. He is out of their Broodmare Hall of Fame mare, also the dam of DressedForTheParty. Tango’s Parting Kiss (sire of a winner today), and CH Pucker Up (dam of the Weanling Futurity winner last night). Nelson Green had Rock Creek champion Forever A Mystery in high style for the red prize for B & T Vonderschmitt LLC. This one is by Undulata’s Nutcracker and out of the Reserve World’s Champion mare Callaway’s Unsolved Mystery. That makes the second dam the phenomenal Broodmare Hall of Famer, Callaway’s Agatha Christie. A second homebred product in the top three, Hot Apple Cider was third with Robert Gardiner for Carla and Jayne Pearman, while Select Star continued a good day for Luman Wadhams in fourth for Richard Thompson.
